It's National CHW Awareness Week! 💟

Community Health Workers are the unsung heroes of our healthcare system, working tirelessly to bridge the gap between healthcare services and the communities they serve. This week, we not only celebrate their invaluable contributions but also highlight the urgent need to support them through initiatives like the CHW Access Act.

The CHW Access Act aims to strengthen and sustain the CHW workforce by expanding access to critical resources, training, and support. By backing this legislation, we can ensure that CHWs continue to play their vital role in improving public health outcomes, especially in underserved communities.

Join us in advocating for CHWs and their essential work by spreading the word and supporting the CHW Access Act. Let’s ensure everyone understands the vital role CHWs play in our communities and bring much-needed awareness to their incredible work!

Share this post to raise awareness and tag a CHW you appreciate in the comments below! Let’s unite in support of the CHW Access Act and the importance of CHWs.

For those interested in becoming certified CHWs, the ASPIN scholarship training application will be opening on October 1st. ASPIN also offers private tuition training opportunities. Learn more at www.aspin.org

This month, ASPIN had the privilege of awarding Connie Esra the U.S. Department of Labor Apprenticeship Completion Certificate. Connie is the first student to complete ASPIN’s Community Health Worker Training Program (ACHWTP) in its entirety. 🎉

Michele Glenn, Connie’s Training Instructor, traveled to Crawfordsville, Indiana, to celebrate the Recovery Coalition’s Recovery Rec Center 6th Anniversary Party on July 27th. This event was a testament to the incredible work being done by Recovery Coalition Inc. and the strong community support they continue to receive. At the event, Michele was able to meet with Connie Esra, Recovery Coalition Inc. Director, Macy Simmons, and City of Crawfordsville - Official Mayor Todd Barton, and presented Connie with her official U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Apprenticeship Completion.

Congratulations to Connie on this significant achievement, and a heartfelt thank you to Recovery Coalition Inc. for sponsoring Connie’s apprenticeship and supporting her journey! To learn more about ASPIN and our programs, visit www.aspin.org.

Social and emotional support, housing, and food insecurity are some social determinants of health that can deeply impact the mental well-being of racial and ethnic minority and American Indian/Alaska Native communities. Community Health Workers (CHWs) play a crucial role in addressing these issues by providing essential services and support directly within communities. Be the this National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month and spread the word about how addressing can advance health equity.

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, also known as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, was developed to honor the efforts of Bebe Moore Campbell (1950 – 2006), an American author, journalist, teacher, and mental health advocate. Campbell was driven to bring awareness to the unique mental health struggles of racial and ethnic minority communities through her personal experiences with a family member’s mental illness. She was one of the founding members of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Urban Los Angeles.
