Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States and reminds us of our mission to disrupt racial, social, and economic inequality. Our values emphasize equity, driving us to transform inequitable systems. As Brightpoint observes Juneteenth, we invite you to engage in conversations, join events, and educate others about its significance and the ongoing work to achieve true equity. Our administrative offices are closed today in observance and will reopen tomorrow.

Have you seen Paige???
One of our beloved mascots, Paige, has gone missing from the library. Her twin brother, Turner, is asking the public for help. Her safe return would be deeply appreciated, no questions asked.
The Maple classroom took advantage of the nice morning and took a walk down to a local park for recess today. The kids got to play a little football and showed off all their gymnastic tricks.
The second Conscious Discipline skill we discussed at today's parent committee meeting is the Skill of Consequences. Consequences are not meant to punish, they are meant to teach children. There are three types of consequences: natural, logical, and problem-solving.
Natural: motivate kids to learn a new skill
Logical: prearranged by adults and motivate children to use a skill they already have
Problem-Solving: helpful tool for chronic problems or for issues that involve multiple children.
We often use the terms "punishment" and "consequence" interchangeably, but they are not the same. Punishments don't teach a new, healthier skill to replace the challenging behavior. They rely on our judgment of the child's actions and don't ask the child to reflect or take personal responsibility. In fact, they demand that children feel the way we want them to feel about their behavior, rather than helping children feel their own feelings. Children often respond to punishments by blaming, defending, or deflecting rather than accepting responsibility. On the other hand, consequences encourage reflection and personal responsibility. They motivate children to use or learn a new behavioral skill and make more positive choices in the future.

At today's monthly parent committee meeting, we discussed Conscious Discipline's Skill of Empathy. Mature empathy is the heart of emotional intelligence. It's about understanding and accepting other's perspectives. Learn how to do this with the DNA process:
