Colonel Brian C. Howard has assumed command as the new Nevada Wing Commander. The former Wing Commander, Col. Deborah Pierce, transferred the Nevada Wing flag at the Civil Air Patrol’s Winter Command Council meeting in Washington, D.C. on March 3.
Colonel Howard is a Civil Air Patrol member for over 15 years. Before assuming command, he was a member of the Henderson Composite Squadron near Las Vegas, serving as both their operations and emergency services officer. Prior to moving to NVWG he served as the Virginia Wing Chief of Staff and was also squadron commander of one of the largest composite squadrons in Virginia.
“First, I'm thankful for the opportunity granted by my selection. My first order of business was to travel to Washington DC and Arlington, Virginia for Civil Air Patrol (CAP). Washington was for National Legislative Day (NLD). NLD was a much more incredible event than I had anticipated. I'm energized by the direction National headquarters has and the budget implications for the Nevada Wing. Meeting with legislators and congressional staffers from Nevada gave me a sense of direction in how we as a team can move the NVWG forward with the absolute full bipartisan support from our representatives,” said Howard.
On Saturday, March 25, a Commander’s Welcome and Banquet will be hosted by Nevada Wing’s Las Vegas Composite Squadron. Members of Nevada Wing and their guests will get the chance to welcome and meet the incoming commander and his family. This occasion also marks a farewell to Col. Pierce and recognize her four years of command.
From Col. Deborah Pierce, Washington, D.C. Civil Air Patrol Winter Command Council:
“The Change of Command for Nevada Wing has concluded. Please welcome your new Wing Commander, Colonel Brian Howard! I know he will serve the Wing - and each of you - well.
It has truly been my honor and privilege to serve as your Commander these past 4+ years. Thank you for all your support; I know you will all continue that support with Colonel Howard.”
This is a sad day in Northern Nevada Aviation.
VIDEO: Air Traffic Control audio, radar tracking for Care Flight crash near Stagecoach An audio file of the air traffic surrounding the Care Flight plane crash was published on Youtube by FSX Aviation, which seems to indicate the pilot had difficulty navigating the taxiway, presumably due to the severe snowstorm that crossed the sierra throughout Friday, prior to taking off.
