On October 4th BusWest hosted a Jouley electric bus ride and drive educational event at the Vehicle Velocity Group facility in Reno, NV. Multiple attendees from seven school districts learned about electric bus components, infrastructure and funding options. Attendees were also able to take the bus for a drive to experience the Jouley firsthand. BusWest staff on hand was Tania Kaylor (sales), Becky Holsen (Grant Administrator), Jason Eckelberry (Customer Support & Training), Ed Dillon (parts) as well as Thomas Built Buses electric vehicle experts Jim Taylor and Mark Richardson.

Over 800 people attended the 2023 STN conference in Reno Nevada July 12-17th. The Buswest team was in attendance to respond to the high interest in EV buses and charging. The conference included vendor booths, speakers, workshops, and a Green Summit.

Roberts Hawaii showcased their two new Thomas Jouley electric school buses as part of the Hawaii State Energy Offices (HSEO) Diesel Replacement Rebate Program event at the Eternal Flame Memorial across from the Hawai’i State Capitol on July 20th. Funding for the program comes from the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust and the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act. Buswest representatives attended in support, and heard from speakers including Roy Pfund of Roberts Hawaii, representatives from the Governor’s office, local legislative representatives, as well as other stakeholders. The drivers and buses were blessed as part of the official blessing ceremony, and there was a ride along at the end of the event. Local media covered the event, including KHON. On Friday May 25th, 2023, Twin Rivers Unified School District held a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil their new electric school bus charging depot. The event was attended by over 150 people, including board members, the superintendent, CARB officials, members of the California Energy Commission, SMUD, Sac Metro Air Quality Management District as well as members of the community. This new charging depot will power (58) electric school buses, with a future capacity of adding (23) more units. Buswest and Thomas Built Bus are proud to have been part of this event and partner with Twin Rivers USD with their ongoing efforts in providing clean school bus transportation to all students.

Coming together as a team is what makes Velocity that much greater than our competitors. Recently, we had our Regional Manager’s Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina where management among different departments within our organization came together to brainstorm new ideas on how we can better serve our customers and what processes we could improve on within the locations. Teamwork makes the dreamwork! It’s always a growth fulfilling and productive, yet fun time when the team comes together.

Please welcome Jason as he joined the BusWest team recently.
With a midwestern origin Jason started his career 19 years ago working with school buses. He was awarded the Thomas Built Bus Midwestern Regional Trainer of the year in 2019 & Western Region winner for 2022. Jason has filled the roles of a Sales Representative, Service Manager, Account Manager, Trainer, and Continuous Improvement Coordinator, he has always worked in roles supporting and meeting the needs of the customer. We hope he looks forward to his new role as Customer Care Manager / Trainer, continuing his history of working to support customers and be the source of information training and support assistance of the Thomas Built Buses product line.

2023 NOTICE OF FUNDING OPPORTUNITY OPEN EPA anticipates awarding approximately $400 million in competitive grant funding under the Clean School Bus (CSB) Grants Program Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The program is soliciting applications nationwide for a grant competition to fund the replacement of existing school buses with clean and zero-emission (ZE) school buses. All application packages need to be submitted electronically to EPA through https://buff.ly/yOngKD no later than Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. (ET) to be considered for funding.
