RePosted • We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ethan Boyes. Ethan was the reigning Masters' Track World Champion in the Men’s 40-44 Time Trial and Sprint events and part of the winning Team Sprint squad, all earned in Fall 2022. In addition, he was a 10-time national champion throughout his cycling career. Ethan currently holds the World’s Best Performance record for Men aged 35-39 in the 1,000-meter time trial set in 2015, as well as several national records. Beyond Ethan’s athletic achievements, he was an upstanding member of the American track cycling community. His loss will be felt at local, regional, national, and world events for years, as he brought a mixture of competition and friendliness to every race. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

About this week’s rain, and the wet winter and spring we are expecting in Southern California…
…on the VELODROME “deluge” means something different! meet Pierre De Luge, famous track racer rumored to have built the first indoor velodrome to escape the RAIN!! Come pay tribute to this great man at the Carson Velodrome by getting certified to join our many training programs and fast races!! Pierre would THANK YOU!! (if this story were actually true, that is 😂).
Secondary rumor: Pierre De Luge sadly lost his first velodrome to a winter landslide, the roof caving in under the weight of heavy spring snow - gratefully, nobody was in the building at the time, but, when a crowd did arrive, they used the seats of broken bleacher chairs to slide down the hill onto the steep berms, creating what is thought today to be the first high speed sled run, and giving Pierre’s namesake to the sport of LUGE (again, repeat this story as fact at your own risk 😂).
But for real, folks, it is always 75° and dry inside Velo Sports Center and it’s a great place to do your winter training. You meet wonderful people and develop some incredible skills that you simply can’t pick up on outdoors.
There is a women’s only certification class starting this Sunday, January 8, and we expect to have a full spring and summer calendar of racing and clinics leading up to Elite and Junior National Championships in July.
Call the front desk at Velo Sports Center at (310) 630-2073 for more details about getting started.
There is a women-only track certification happening January 8, 14 and 15 at ! Contact the front desk at 310.630.2073 (ask for Hector) to reserve your spot. Class size is limited.

Seeking Host Families for Detroit/Los Angeles 6-day Holiday Carnival! LAVRA’s Elite & Pro Omnium dates are December 16-18, 2022. We are asking families to host the athlete(s) near Carson or the South Bay the day before the start on 12/15.
We are looking for families that would host a participant(s) during their stay. As a host family, you will make it more affordable and even possible for them to come to the Velodrome and help make the series great! We will have no shortage of racers who will be grateful for host housing. Racers include all genders andmay come from international locations. We will also provide a small stipend of $25 dollars per Cyclist per day.
They need you to provide:
1. A sleeping space, bed, or air mattress
2. Use of a bathroom and shower
3. Racers may need access to your refrigerator to store beverages and food
4. Use of washer and dryer
5. Secure place to store their bicycle while visiting
We know this isn’t for everyone, but for those families who are open to hosting race athletes, here are a few tips to make it a remarkable experience for your family and the athlete.
1. Remember that in your home they aren’t athletes; they’re tired LAVRA Cyclists trying to realize their dreams and need a place to rest and rejuvenate. They aren’t expecting anything more than what we described and are much like you and your family. These athletes will spend most of their time at the Velodrome preparing and participating in their races.
2. The cyclist are adults and will not depend on your or your family for providing or cooking food.
3. Ideally, you can help get them to and from your home and the Velodrome. They need to get there early and will stress less if they can get to their events on time. Remember, that’s what they came to do!
What you won’t have to do:
1. Provide food or cooking services
2. Wash their clothes
3. Provide transportation, but it would be wonderful if you can
It’s easy to sign up and rewarding to host. Fill out the application to get started:
Submit a host housing application: https://lavelodrome.org/contact-page/
If you have any additional questions, please contact Nicolette Little [email protected] or Zach LaBry [email protected] for additional details.
