“So, together we dream as leaders as we redefine what it means to have power in our communities of faith and as we do that we step back and we pray, we’re humbled, we let go, and we serve.
Friends, when we make these things a core part of who we are, we will find that we are really able to dream big. More than that, we will find that God will begin to change our hearts, and then as our hearts change, change the hearts of our neighbors around us: both those right here and those at the very ends of the earth.
So, my challenge for you this morning is to take a step back, not into the past or where we’ve been– surely we’ve done that enough, right?– but to take a step back as we redefine what it means to be Christians in the world who dream for what could be, as we take on the mantels of prayer over pride, communal dreams over individual ones, and service over power.
In the end, we may not build a church that looks like a Roman Empire type of facility or place but, thanks to God, we might just build one that looks like Jesus and his ragtag group of imperfect disciples who go on to change the world.”
