Do Not Top your Trees or Crape Myrtles!

Topping a Crape Myrtle or other tree destroys the natural balance and beauty of the trees. Improperly trimmed multi - or single trunk trees have weakened immune responses and can not fight off disease and insects well. As the topping continues, the trees or Crape Myrtles can respond by growing more trunks worsening the problem.

I wanted to reach out to my wonderful and loyal customers about some changes to the business and my life in general.

With work being really slow for this year and financial strains on my end, I've decided to work part time for someone and still maintain my pruning business. This decision did not come lightly as I've grown accustomed to an entrepreneur lifestyle for the past 6 years. Going back to work under someone is scary for sure, but need at this point.

So, I am still offering pruning and small tree projects to all my old and new customers. This will not change for the time being, I will simply just be doing it part time again. I have worked out a schedule with my new employer to work mornings and have afternoons off. This will allow me to focus on my business.

Thank you again to my wonderful customers as we have made it this far and I look towards the future. Although a set back for the time being, good things will come.

For a limited to see who all would be interested, I am planning on offering classes and training classes on pruning and basics of yard maintenance. This would be an opportunity to show others what to look for when doing yard work and trimming, but also helping out the gardening community! I do not have the details outlined yet, but if someone has an office space or willing to open their house to a class, please let me know! If I can get enough interest, I'll let people know what to expect and the cost.
I would also be offering private one on one training at residences for those interested in becoming and staying the envy of your neighborhood! Take advantage of the 15+ years experience I have and knowledge of local landscapes, trees, and plants!

I would like all my friends, customers, and clients that at this time, I am holding off on moving to western NC. I would like to extend to any and everyone who has sent me messages and helped me to find some great resources for that area. I am always grateful for the love and support from each and every one of you.

I would also like to let everyone know that I will be continuing doing tree pruning, small tree removals and stump grinding. I am also doing specialty bish and plant trimming. This will not be rows upon rows of bushes, but rather creating new shapes or using various methods to perform this service.

I apologize to those whom I had stopped doing shrub trimming. Shrub trimming is a very boring job and I wanted to explore more of the creative side of ornamental trimming. To be challenged is to showcase the talent and skills that God has given to me to help others. I again extend thanks to those who have used my services since I first started. Without yall, Top Notch Pruning would not be what it is today.

I am looking to move to western NC, Asheville area in the near future. All of my wonderful customers are here in Cary and I've really appreciated everything people have done for me and my family for the last 6 years.

With all of this being said, I am asking if anyone knows of friends, family, colleagues, etc that are in need of speciality tree pruning services. This would be for the Asheville area. As of right now, I have no work in that area and may need to get a part time job to get by.

Pruning progression on a Crimson Queen Japanese Maple. Pictures at the end are the final results...the goal was to create more clearance from the patio and driveway without making it look like a pancake.

Properly restoring and cleaning a "murdered" Crape Myrtle back to health. Restructuring by canopy reduction to allow the interior to fill in and take a more umbrella shape.

It's that time of the year again! As we celebrate the start of a new year, we also look at doing more aggressive pruning to ornamental trees! My season usually runs from now until around Valentines Day. Depending on weather or temperatures, the latest I would go would be March.
