Mariposa is an inclusive environment. In the analysis of behavior we strive to identify and understand how stimuli affect behavior. It is not always popular to discuss the control that certain stilmuli such as color or race may have or the relational framework or history of reinforcement that those possessing those stimuli may have. I believe that this is not the time to say we do not recognize color but to agree we recognize, appreciate and understand the value in such. This is socially significant.
Mariposa operates with 5 Core Values. They are listed below with additional thoughts or clarifying statements following each.
We put the learner first
Put the care, welfare and service of the learner above all. This is why we exist and our driving force. We behave in a manner that puts the gains of the learner above the gains of ourselves.
Please note that learner is not a specific and includes no limiting language.
We are a team
We will behave as a team, working together for a common good. We recognize that all members of the team are valuable. We recognize that parents/caregivers are critical members of the team. We will put aside any and all differences to focus and strive, together, toward our common goal. We will each give our maximum effort as though the sole responsibility fell on individual shoulders but understanding that no one person is greater than the team.
โWe recognize that all members of the team are valuable.โ Everyone, no matter their differences, working toward a common goal.
We constantly improve
We facilitate and encourage growth for all members of the team to better support the growth of the learner. Every aspect of the learnerโs program will be monitored to ensure growth. We recognize that all growth, large or small, should be celebrated.
Racism is not black or white. It is a continuum that does not go away overnight. We should as a society be committed to becoming better tomorrow than we were today.
We trust the data
We rely on evidence and data to make decisions. We will stand confident in the data we have, and open to data yet to be collected.
Atrocities and inequality are well-documented. It would be irresponsible to ignore these data and not intervene.
We care
We behave in a caring manner. Appreciating everyoneโs story, both what is written and what is yet to be. We will be courteous to all, respecting their time and efforts. We will behave in a manner that is dignified while protecting the dignity of those who are unable to protect their own. We understand that our behavior has the power to affect others.
