We’ve been so fortunate to have Dr. Melamed on our team for nearly three decades. During his time at Wake Radiology, he spearheaded cross-departmental collaboration, helped advance our orthopedic imaging and pain service, and led the charge to strengthen our bone densitometry service. Because of Dr. Melamed’s work, Wake Radiology became the first multisite provider group in the U.S. to receive certification from the International Society of Clinical Densitometry. Congrats on your well-deserved retirement!
Join us in sending him off with well wishes — comment below if Dr. Melamed has impacted your life!

Meet our newest Advanced Practice Provider: Alicia Blount FNP-C!
Alicia joined the Wake Rad team in February 2024, and we’re lucky to have her. She began her career in interventional radiology as a procedure nurse in 2007.
She transitioned into the role of Nurse Practitioner in IR at UNC Chapel Hill in 2016, and now she’s furthering her career as an APP with us! The multitude of procedures that Wake Rad and UNC Rex offer has allowed Alicia to step outside of her comfort zone. Whether she’s performing one of her favorite procedures, a port catheter placement or a hysterosalpingogram, or her least favorite, a defecogram, Alicia finds pleasure in the versatility of her new role.
Alicia is a mom of two beautiful daughters, ages 9 and 12, and a loving wife of 13 years. When she’s not at work, Alicia enjoys watching her girls participate in track and field and piecing together jigsaw puzzles. She loves NFL football and is a big Carolina Panthers fan!
Make no bones about it: osteoporosis can start affecting men as young as 40. The good news is, today the disease is preventable and treatable. It’s your new best friend for keeping your bones healthy. Ask your doctor today if it’s time for you to be tested.
While in school, Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan discovered his passion for performing imaging-guided procedures to help patients. Today, we’re pleased to be adding his skills and specialized training to our interventional radiology team. Please join us in giving Dr. Ramakrishnan a warm welcome!
