Update #2

Hi everyone. It's Valeri again. First, thank you to all for the thoughts & prayers. If you know of anyone who might not be on Linnie's list of friends but would like to know about him please pass on the news. In re-reading my post of last night I realized that I left out some very important information.

Linnie's liver biopsy was sent Mayo. When the Oncologist here was finally able to read the report she learned that as previously stated it is stage 4 liver/gall bladder/bile duct cancer. It is also a very aggressive form of cancer. Due to those facts plus the fact that it has already spread throughout his body the Oncologist recommended NO chemo or radiation. Linnie had already decided that he did not want to go through that so we are all in agreement.

When he does return home we will have hospice care for him for however long he is with us.

Hey all, it’s Rocky Mount. Many of you may already know the situation with our dearest friend Linnie. An update was made and I wanted to make sure that those of you who may not be friends with him are able to see what’s going on.

“Hi everyone. I'm Linnie's sister Valeri.

As many of you are now aware Linnie HAS been diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer---or more accurately bile duct cancer. But we only found out a few days ago.

In November, 2 days before Thanksgiving, Linnie fell & broke his arm. A week later he went to get a cast & was told the break was on a metastic lesion which meant the presence of a cancer. The decision was made not to cast as he would have had to be in a full upper body cast. He was also told that the arm would never fully heal.

His primary care physician set about running tests & scans. Tumors were found in Linnie's lungs, liver and possibly other organs. He prescribed a medication in an attempt to bring Linne's blood pressure down. He also ordered a liver biopsy shorlty before Christmas.

Linnie had also started retaining fluid in his legs & feet to the point it was difficult for him to stand from a sitting position without assistance or to walk without a cane, support from another person or both.

On Monday, December 26th Linnie refractured his arm.

On Sunday, January 1st at about 1:00 in the afternoon Linnie asked our brother to call 911. He was experiencing chest pains & shortness of breath. After an EKG and other tests it was determined that he had NOT had a heart attack. However his potassium levels and blood oxygen were low. He was given a potassium drip & put on oxygen. He was started on Lasix to reduce the fluid from his body. Linnie was eventually admitted to the hospital where he stayed for another week.

Linnie was transferred to a rehab facility on Monday, January 9th. On Wednesday, January 11th he was taken by ambulance to the ER again. This time to a different hospital. In less than 24 hours he was diagnosed with a UTI and a brain bleed (also called Hemorrhagic Stroke). Both of these conditions can lead to the confusion & disorientaion that he was--and is--experiencing. He was started on antibiotics to treat the UTI and was admitted to the Neuro ICU for observation. Within 48 hours his speech was improved and his confusion and disorientation have diminished.

As of today, no decision has been made as to whether he will be discharged any time soon.

There is much more to the story but I hope I have given all the most pertinent information. I will post again as soon as I know more &/or am able.”
