This sweet client started coming to me after struggling with acne, severe dryness, redness and inflammation for some time. Her wedding was coming up and wanted to improve her skin before her big day.

The difference between these two photos is skin HEALTH. When looking at acne and barrier issues, we must start with a healthy skin barrier first, before we go after the acne (or any skin concern, for the matter.) Then, it’s a matter of introducing ingredients slowly with a step up approach to exfoliation to avoid drying out the skin.

A healthy functioning barrier should always be the first priority when it comes to treating the skin. Typically, the main cause of an unhealthy barrier is over exfoliation from aesthetic procedures, the wrong at home exfoliants and home-care, and the overuse of prescription strength topicals. While increasing cellular turnover is important, if the barrier function is disrupted, the skin is more susceptible to bacteria and the elements, and ultimately becomes depleted of resources. This results in a “compromised barrier”.
These skins become highly sensitive and quickly react to products containing dyes, preservatives, and fragrance. A compromised barrier is frequently mistaken for Rosacea because it leads to increased redness & inflammation, but the treatment plan is slightly different.
With a compromised barrier, I want to give the skin special attention by repairing from the inside out and focusing on epidermal health. The approach is gentle, yet effective and can take compromised skin to a healthy normal place to:
* Strengthen the Dermis
* Rebuild the Epidermis
* Restore Lipids & Hydration

Ways to protect yourself from developing skin cancer:

Wear sunscreen DAILY and reapply every 2 hours.

Wear hats and protective clothing if you're going to be exposed to the sun for prolonged periods of time.

Do a monthly self-check and get your skin checked ANNUALLY by a dermatologist.
