X-ray Friday:
What do you see in this x-ray? What stands out to you?
If you just saw this x-ray without any other information what would you expect to see in the patient when they come to see you?

This lady has previously had a trapeziectomy, where the bone at the base of the thumb is removed and a spacer has been put in place of the bone. There are many different ways of doing a trapeziectomy and this mainly depends on surgeon preference.

In the x-ray, you can see that she has arthritis in her other fingers and the most obvious presentation is that the left thumb is in a Z deformity. This is when the middle joint of the thumb hyperextends and the end joint bends and causes unequal forces through the base of the thumb, one of the main reasons she would have developed arthritis. It is also due to an unequal pull of the muscles around the thumb and joints.

Hand therapy can help with orthoses to help hold the thumb in a more opportune position, they can also help with exercises when appropriate.

Did you know that gardening has many health benefits?!

These benefits include exposure to Vitamin D, decreased dementia risk, a boosted mood, provides enjoyable aerobic exercise, and can even help combat loneliness.

Unfortunately for all of us who live in Wyoming, gardening is weather permitted. 😏

Our Story

Our therapists attend continuing education courses which are based on evidence, this means the information in courses has been proven to be effective in relieving pain, gaining mobility, improving balance, gaining strength and becoming independent with all activities. All of our patients are listened to, and always treated with care and empathy. Our therapists bring over 25 years of therapeutic experience to our patients. All patients' treatments are scheduled for 1 hour and are always with a licensed therapist. Central Wyoming Therapy does not believe in the use of aides/techs to provide you with your treatment due to the lack of education and not being able to become licensed to provide skilled therapy services.

The Wyoming Athletic Club (WAC) has been a wonderful avenue for us as a therapy clinic, we have access to the entire facility on both east and west side of Casper, as well as pool.

Let Central Wyoming Therapy show you that you can get better and are our number 1 priority.
