Join us Thursday March 21st, 6:30 PM, at the Natrona County Library or from your home for a Legacy Webinar on ZOOM entitled "Documenting American Indian Families in 20th Century Records". She will discuss traditional census records as well as some of the specific Native American Membership Rolls, including communities from New England to the Western Frontier.
For Natrona County Genealogy Society dues-paying members, you will find the CORRECTED password in our newsletter which Vernon will e-mail to you this week. Those who are not yet members may call or drop by the library & get the password there. You may check in to ZOOM as early as 6:15 PM on Thursday.

How many of you can trace your roots back to the penal colonies in Austrailia who traveled there from England & sometimes Scotland & Ireland? 😲
These are the cells on an 1800's convict ship. In 1787, the First Fleet, a group of convict ships departed from England to establish the first colonial settlement in Australia, as a penal colony.
The First Fleet included boats containing food and animals from London.
The ships and boats of the fleet would explore the coast of Australia by sailing all around it looking for suitable farming land and resources. The fleet arrived at Botany Bay, Sydney on 18 January 1788, then moved to Sydney Cove (modern-day Circular Quay) and established the first permanent European settlement in Australia. This marked the beginning of the European colonisation of Australia.

The Bank of Vernal was shipped through the mail one brick at a time! When construction began on this Utah bank in 1916, mailing the 80,000 bricks was the cheapest option.
According to this 1935 article, each brick was wrapped and put in a crate totaling less than 50 pounds to comply with mail regulations. The bricks were then sent by train from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Colorado, where they were transferred to a narrow-gauge railway and transported to within 65 miles of Vernal. The bricks were hauled the final miles by wagon.
The bank was completed in 1917 and still stands today!
