Leech Lake Legacy

We are extremely sad that longtime supporter of Leech Lake Legacy, Tom O'Sullivan, passed away last week. Tom and his wife, Nancy, were passionate about helping animals and the people who loved them. Tom will be deeply missed by those who loved him, including the countless critters he and Nancy helped save and care for. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tom's family and friends, and the biggest hugs possible go out to Nancy. May his memory be a blessing.

The gang is mostly all here for our wellness weekend. Free table is up, and food is available while supplies last. 8am to 5pm Friday 25th and Saturday 26th!

The lagers elves are almost ready for Lagers for Legacy 2024 to start!. We’re here until 5 PM. Delicious food and beer available for purchase from La Dona. Desserts will be here shortly from our favorite baker, Amy. 

Leech Lake Legacy is partnering with Animal Care Clinic of Bemidji’s Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Rachel for a free vaccine clinic on Saturday, September 14 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at our facility at 417 Maple Ave. NE in Cass Lake!

This is a walk-in vaccine clinic. First come, first served. No pre-registration required.

Please keep your pets safe and secure by bringing cats in carriers and dogs on leashes.

Vaccines were generously donated by Petco Love;
free-will donations gladly accepted by Leech Lake Legacy.

Dogs of appropriate age, vaccine history, and health will be given
rabies and/or DAPPv vaccines.

Cats of appropriate age, vaccine history, and health will be given
rabies and/or HCP vaccines.

This event will start at 8am on both days of July 27th and July 28th.

Today's transport of 48 animals wasn't large enough to be recordbreaking. In many ways it was very ordinary in that Jenny found placement and transported them to where they needed to go. But it also was a very special transport in that the last of the cats and kittens that had been exposed to panleukopenia at our June clinic had finally cleared their quarantine period and moved on to our partner shetlers and rescues. Our thanks to The Babinski Foundation, Feline Rescue, Inc., Carver Scott Humane Society, and Crossroads Animal Shelter & Community Veterinary Clinic for taking these babies in!

Just like Rose Nyland from The Golden Girls isn't one to blow her own "verturgen-furgen," Jenny and our volunteers Phlip, Nancy, and Julie aren't one to blow their own horns either. But they all provided the care and love these felines needed (not to mention the cleaning!) while they waited for their quarantine to be completed. A special shout-out to Philip for spending the better part of two weeks at our Cass Lake building caring for the cats and kittens while working remotely. We could not have a better team of volunteers! If you'd like to help cover our extra expenses of cat and kitten food, litter, medicine, cleaning supplies, and "boarding" for Philip, just click on the donate button!

We’ve already run out of donated dog food at this weekend‘s clinic. Some canned cat food remains available as of Saturday morning. If you need cat food, we recommend stopping by as early as possible today. 

Another opportunity for vaccines for your dog or cat. Please see information from the Leech Lake Tribal Police’s post, below. This is not a Leech Lake Legacy event. 

Take a break this afternoon at Fat Pants Brewing Co. and enjoy a pint and something to eat! Fat Pants will donate one dollar for each pint sold to Leech Lake Legacy from noon to 5 PM! Ken and Karen are working the info/merch table.

Crystal's city-wide yard sale is Thursday, May 30 - Saturday, June (9am - 5pm each day). Once again, super-volunteers Rebecca and Erika have assembled a super-sized sale, with proceeds benefitting Leech Lake Legacy!

We're wrapping up after a busy clinic weekend! Dr. Paul and team rocked out surgeries on The Babinski Foundation's surgery truck, and Dr. Dani and team rocked out wellness appointments inside. All our volunteers rocked out moving animals to and from their appointments, distributing food and supplies, caring for surrendered animals, and doing all sorts of cleaning and organizing and making repairs. Apologies to the volunteers we didn't catch in a photo!

Spring Fundraisers Fundraising is even easier at Malmborg's. You can now schedule an entire shopping week for your group or organization.

This incredible team of volunteers recently wrapped up our March clinic. Snow-covered roads couldn’t keep them from making the drive to and from Cass Lake to volunteer! A total of 141 animals received wellness services, including treatment of some serious bite wounds and performing a cat neuter. We are so lucky to have such experienced volunteer vets and vet techs ready and able to tend to such variety of needs.

71 surrendered animals were placed and transported from our March clinic, with volunteers providing all the necessary love and care give them the best start on their journeys to their forever homes. And donated pet food and supplies were distributed to those that needed it.

Our wellness and spay/neuter patients this spring will be able to benefit from a generous donation of NexGard® PLUS from Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and Greater Good Charities. By working through RezDawg Rescue, Inc, we were able to obtain 40 cases of NexGard® PLUS, covering only shipping and handling costs.

We tend to report out the number of animals we see at our clinics and events, but volunteer Philip dug deeper into our March numbers and calculated that we prescribed and dispensed over 200 vaccinations and nearly 900 doses of flea/tick and heartworm preventative. That is a lot of inventory for us to procure and track and store and transport!

Thank you everyone – clients, donors, volunteers, and supporters alike – for helping to sustain us so that we can continue to serve reservation animals and the people who love them.

The rain is ending and volunteers are putting the finishing touoches on our booth at today's Walk for Animals! We'll have merchandise for sale, the donation bucket out, and can't wait to meet and chat with friends!

Rain or shine, the Minnesota State Fairground International Bazaar gates will open at 9 AM on Saturday, May 4. The walk itself begins at 10 AM and the day wraps up by 1 PM.

The Walk features an array of food and beverage vendors to delight your taste buds, as well as an incredible lineup of local retailers, rescues, and pet service providers. There will be a number of fun activities for pets and people alike! Stop by the International Bazaar to dive into the fun, and visit Leech Lake Legacy's booth!

Please enter the Walk for Animals from the Fairgrounds entrance on Como Avenue where free parking is available for all walkers.

We are so happy to be back in action this weekend with another spay/neuter transport clinic, our first since the pandemic! A huge thank you to Pet Haven, Inc. of MN for generously hosting and supporting us this weekend! Volunteers picked up and transported 23 lucky cats from Cass Lake on Friday, will perform surgeries today, and will transport the cats back to their families in Cass Lake on Sunday. A lot of unwanted litters are being prevented and a lot of lives are being saved!
