Dear shiatsu and massage clients and friends,
Self-care with Shiatsu and Acupressure - Free Class
As part of the Grand Opening weekend at the Catonsville Dojo, on Novemember 3 at 3:30pm I will be teaching a free class: Self-care with Shiatsu and Acupressure. Learn some basics of self-care with acupressure and shiatsu to relieve stress, pain, and help with simple health conditions. The Catonsville Dojo is at 6159-B Edmondson Avenue, in the Goals complex.
Back from Summerisle Burn 2024, now a few days to unpack the car, clean the gear, pack in some productive hours at the various jobs (!), pack the car, and then it's out to southeast Ohio for The Starwood Festival, where I'll be speaking about self-care with Asian Bodywork (as in EarthTouch Shiatsu) and magick (as in Punk Magick). It's a strange life, but it's my life.
It was May 2004 when I graduated from the Shiatsu and Asian Bodywork program at the Baltimore School of Massage, and October 2004 when I first got my massage therapy license. (Actually in Maryland at the time, we were "Certified Massage Therapists", but it was really a license.)
In honor of this 20th anniversary, I'm offering a discount: between now and the end of October, mention the "20th anniversary discount" to get $20 off your session. One per client, please. New or existing clients -- so please tell your friends!
Classes Coming
As many of you know, I also teach karate. For the past few years we've been renting studio space by the hour, but this summer we will be moving to our own studio on Edmondson Avenue, just inside the Beltway, at Goals Baltimore. Besides expanding our karate classes, this means I'm going to have a space to hold acupressure, qi gong, and meditation events. So look for more news about that coming later this summer!
EarthTouch Shiatsu Upcoming classes and events: Friday Nov 24, 4-5pm, "Black Friday" meditation, Revolve Wellness Studios in Catonsville. Monday January 1, 3-4pm, New Year's Meditation and Qi Gong, on-line only. Contact me to register or for more information.
I'm scheduled to speak about acupressure and magick at The Starwood Festival XLIV this July
The Starwood Festival: America's Finest Transformational Experience The Starwood Festival is a transformational event, a non-demoninational spiritual and Neo-Pagan gathering dedicated to consciousness exploration and providing new and varied entertaining experiences.
"The archetypal Healer has access to special knowledge. Whether it’s a tribal shaman’s relation with the spirits, a traditional herbalist’s memorized lore, or a modern physician’s skills and diagnostic tools, the Healer knows important things the average member of their society does not. But unlike the archetypal Magician, who is isolated in study of his art — the wizard in his tower — the Healer is applying that art for the benefit of others."
Masculine Archetypes: The Healer (Shaman/Smith) at Imbolc Over this turn of the "Wheel of the Year", it's my plan to investigate and pay respect to eight archetypes of mature, sacred masculinity. This is the

Holy s**t. "One in four who had Pfizer Covid jabs experienced unintended immune response...No adverse effects were created by the error, data show, but Cambridge scientists found such vaccines were not perfect and sometimes led to nonsense proteins being made instead of the desired Covid “spike”, which mimics infection and leads to antibody production...It was thought the minor tweak to uridine caused no problems in cells, but a team of researchers at the University of Cambridge’s Medical Research Council (MRC) Toxicology Unit have now found when this partially synthetic code is read, the protein-making machine in the body sometimes struggles with the uridine analogues."
This is like saying "we have problems printing the letter A, so we're using a Δ instead, it will be clear enough."
I consider myself much more scientifically informed than the average citizen, but in all that I read about mRNA vaccines I don't recall ANYTHING discussing how they used a fake version of the base uridine!
LMBC that I still think the original release of covid vax did far far more good than harm. I was an early vaccinee in part on the theory that healthy folks like me should volunteer to be guinea pigs and risk being the first to discover side-effects. I'm not endorsing "plandemic" or "social control" conspiracy theories about the vax.
I'm more skeptical of the value of endless boosters in the general population now that we're no longer immunologically naive, and with this news will certainly NOT be getting any mRNA vaccine using this fake base. The claim that there were no adverse effects due to these junk proteins -- none at all, zero -- strikes me as an extraordinary claim requiring extraordinary evidence.
But either way, that this important fact was left out of discussion of the vaccine is a serious violation of medical, scientific, and journalistic ethics.
One in four who had Moderna or Pfizer Covid jabs experienced unintended immune response More than a quarter of people injected with mRNA Covid jabs suffered an unintended immune response created by a glitch in the way the vaccine was read by the body, a study has found.

Happy spring!
"What," you ask, "has Tom lost his mind? It's still cold out, we're just moving into February."
That's true. But traditionally, Chinese New Year has been celebrated as the "Spring Festival" for hundreds of years. It parallels the old Celtic holiday of Imbolc, celebrated as Candlemas at many churches, at the beginning of February.
Because of the lunar cycle Chinese New Year fell a little early this year, but next week we'll be just about halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. The days are starting to get longer, you can see buds starting to swell up on some trees. Traditional agricultural societies could see the energy starting to change, and so in one way of figuring the seasons, where the equinoxes and solstices mark the middle of the seasons ("A Mid-Summer Night's Dream", etc.), this is the beginning of spring.
Though in another way, it’s the middle of winter — this dispute might be the root of the story about the groundhog deciding if spring starts now or we get another month and a half of winter.
But who wouldn't like spring to start now? So to celebrate...a spring sale!
Book a session before midnight on Groundhog's Day, February 2, for any time before May 1, and take $10 off the price. Just mention "spring sale" when you contact me to schedule your appointment.

"Collectively, the results of this experiment may help integrate the various anatomical correlates being proposed for the objective basis of acupuncture structures. The linear path undertaken by fluorescein dye aligned closely with the intermuscular fascia in the forearm, consistent with the connective tissue framework proposed by Langevin [7]. Only injection of dye at low-electrical impedance points formed these linear trajectories as revealed not only by the results of this study but also from past animal studies as well [28]. This specific, functional distinction associated with low-electrical impedance points comports with past hypotheses regarding the electrical characteristics of acupuncture points [41]. Finally, the coalescence of dye at these unique points—Evan’s blue for the hypersensitized point hypothesis [16] and fluorescein dye in our study—suggests the presence of a localized pooling site within the skin that may have physiological implications. Future studies may explore whether these points have any neurovascular and interstitial convergence." Interesting stuff!

In Vivo Visualization of the Pericardium Meridian with Fluorescent Dyes The anatomical basis of acupuncture meridians continues to be enigmatic. Although much attention has been placed on potential correlations with inter/intramuscular fascia or lower electrical impedance, animal studies performed in the past 40 years have shown that tracer dyes—specifically Tc-9...
