Today we take a minute to honor and remember long-time campus carillonneur, Robert āBobā Byrnes.
Bob was a proud UNI alumn graduating in 1972 and again in 1974 with his masters degree in music. After graduating, he then became the director of the UNI Varsity Menās Glee Club while maintaining his status as campus carillonneur.
Bob is best remembered on campus for his nightly concerts on the instrument that entranced students below to take a moment and reflect. No one could play the carillon quite like Bob.
Sadly, 20 years ago today, Bob passed away, leaving our campus bells silent for quite some time. We honor him and his dedication to our carillon, as we couldnāt do a lot of what we do without his connections that gave us the breadth of carillon music we have to play.
There will be a brief concert of UNI repertoire played around 2pm today.
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Sara Blessing will be joining the UNI School of Music faculty in fall 2024 as Assistant Professor of Instruction in Choral Music Education. Welcome, Dr. Blessing!
Today is the day! Join us in the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center lobby at 5 p.m. tonight for our May the 4th (eve) celebration featuring Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra!

Congratulations, Emily!

The School of Music was deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of David Dunn. David served the School of Music in the role of Piano Maintenance Technician and Coordinator from 2011-2024. He also served as adjunct instructor of string bass at UNI in 2006-07, and as a faculty member for the UNI Jazz Combo Camp from 2001 to 2007. David was an incredible colleague and dear friend to so many in the School of Music community, and he will be dearly missed.
