It's time to celebrate Medical Laboratory Professionals Week!

From laboratory testing to confirm pregnancy, checking to see if diabetes is controlled, identifying the bacteria causing infection and the antibiotics to treat it, checking to see if anticoagulant levels are therapeutic to identifying safe blood for transfusion, examining Pap smears, and preparing and diagnosing cancer from biopsies and tissue specimens, laboratory professionals are involved in every aspect of healthcare. In addition, our skilled phlebotomists collect samples, our couriers safely transport specimens hundreds of miles every day, and our business and support staff keep things moving!

Thank you to our histologists, cytologists, cytology prep, phlebotomists, medical laboratory technicians, medical laboratory scientists, pathologist's assistants, pathologists, couriers, and office and support staff! Your hard work is appreciated!

Due to inclement weather on Friday, January 12, the Main Lab will be open 8 am to 2 pm. All other locations will be closed.

We recently celebrated Kathy's retirement after 17 years at Weland! She was most recently one of our housecall phlebotomists, providing services to long-term care facilities and patients in their homes. Kathy worked through incredibly challenging times during COVID and the derecho and was a consistent and reliable presence. She almost never missed a draw and had the best interests of her patients in mind always. Congratulations, Kathy!

We have recently celebrated two new retirees. They are a bit camera shy, but we can't let this milestone go by without acknowledgement!

Congratulations to Sara, who has been with Weland for 10 years as a Pathology Biller. Her expertise, kindness, and aversion to spiders will be missed!

Congratulations to Janet, who has been with Weland for 35(!) years as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in our Chemistry department. Janet's knowledge, thoroughness, attention to detail, and willingness to help will be missed!

Weland Clinical Laboratories, P.C. recently earned reaccreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Participation in CAP's accreditation program demonstrates the laboratory's commitment to the highest quality patient care. During the biennial CAP inspection process, a team of surveyors examines the lab's records, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety, and overall management for all laboratory disciplines.

Meet our Marion Lab! We are located at 1101 Eagleview Drive, Suite 104--we are in the same building as Dairy Queen, Golden Palace, and Cost Cutters and right across from Wal-Mart.

We are so happy to have Brooke and Haley at our Marion Lab! Haley has been with Weland for 8 years and has 11 years of phlebotomy experience. Haley's favorite part of her job is hearing "I didn't feel a thing" from patients. Outside of work, she likes kayaking, fishing, spending time with her family, and traveling to Orange Beach whenever she can. Her dream superpower is being able to read her 2 year old's mind and her dream vacation destination is Patagonia!

Brooke has more than 5 years of phlebotomy experience and has been with Weland for almost 4 years! Brooke chose her career to make patients' blood draws as easy as possible. She enjoys one-on-one interaction with patients and making sure their days are off to a great start. Brooke also says she is blessed to work with some amazing co-workers! Outside of work, Brooke likes to spend time with family, friends, and church family and enjoys reading, writing, and painting.

Brooke and Haley welcome patients at our Marion location Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3:30 pm. No appointments are needed, walk-in patients are welcome!

Yesterday, we celebrated Jayne's retirement! Jayne has been at Weland for 6 years, first as a Medical Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist, then as part of our Central Receiving department. Jayne was the driving force for organizing and coordinating our receiving process during COVID, when we received hundreds more samples than usual on many days. We will miss Jayne's expertise and helpful spirit, but wish her well on her next adventure. Thank you, Jayne!
