One of the many perks of being a Ozaukee County Historical Society member/ volunteer, is being asked to go on the "behind the scenes" tour of one of the many beautiful places our county offers to visit.
One of members, Thomas Spaeth and his lovely wife Holly, were one of the lucky few who were selected to be week long docents to live in the Port Washington Historical Society 1860 Light Station Museum- Port Washington, WI . The 1860 Lighthouse was the 2nd one built on the hill (by St Mary's Church) Come take the tour to find out all about the first one, along with the history, and families that lived in the Light Station.

To quote another guest on our event "Celebrate Patriotism" and that is what Flag Day is all about. Stony Hill School - OCHS is famous for that, Bernard Cigrand, a young teacher admired the flag and thought it should be celebrated.

We are in need of fun, energizing individuals to join our Volunteer Team! Lots of opportunities for all ages.
🇺🇸Flag Day. Armed Forces Day. Independence Day. As Americans, we celebrate dozens of patriotic holidays throughout the year.
🇺🇸However, two of these days — Memorial Day and Veterans Day — are often confused for the other and can be easily misunderstood.
On May 5, 1866, the town of Waterloo, New York, formalized this ritual and hosted a city-wide “Decoration Day,” encouraging its citizens to create memorials on soldiers’ graves with flags and flowers. A few years later in 1868, Gen. John A. Logan declared that the first-ever national Decoration Day should take place on May 30, as the date was a neutral day for both sides of the Civil War to honor their fallen soldiers.
🇺🇸It is important to remember the true reason behind the holiday weekend – Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the lives of the men and women of this country who were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedoms.
🇺🇸Don't wish someone a "happy" Memorial Day. Try this instead "I hope your Memorial Day is meaningful".
🇺🇸Instead of thanking a veteran tell them this instead “Thank you for the sacrifices you made being away from your family.”
"I will never forget"

Walk through Old St Mary's Cemetery and hear the stories of those buried there.
On January 25, 1854 St. Mary’s organized a cemetery association. Land was purchased on February 15, 1854 for the cemetery at what is now the west end of Dodge Street bordering on Webster Street. This cemetery served the members of St. Stephen’s & St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Congregations. In 1876 the small brick chapel was erected in the cemetery, this serves as a final resting place for Fr. Sailer & Fr. Bermadinger.
The Tour is lead by Randy Ray, our genealogist. Wear comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather. Bring a bag chair if you would like to sit. No Pets, please. Donations to the Cemetery are appreciated.
Note: this is not a haunted walk, it is focusing on the history of those who came before us. This Event is Free
