His gnarled hands are dirty and sore from harvesting ripe coffee cherries. The work is painstaking, picking through branches, seeking ripe red cherries. The life of a coffee farmer is not easy, and he makes very little from his work, and he and his family live below the UN ultra poverty level. That is why TerraMica works with small shareholder coffee farming families, to alleviate the impact of poverty and improve quality of life through proven, effective training for families and communities.

She has dreams for her daughter's future, hoping for a better life with good health, security, and stability. We work hand in hand with families like hers, providing them with encouragement, training, and the necessary tools to enhance the quality of their lives and that of their children. Building healthy relationships can have a profound impact on our daily lives. When we learn to value others, listen to them, and treat them with respect, we create positive interactions that enrich our lives. We come to understand that just as God places immense value on each of us, we too can recognize that same value in ourselves, our family members, and our neighbors. TerraMica's My Healthy Home is an inspiring platform that works to eliminate generational poverty. Our curriculum empowers individuals and families to focus on building a healthier, more stable future.

When fighting poverty, agency is a vital goal to achieve while families go through our classes. When I speak of agency, that refers to individuals’ ability to make choices and take actions that affect their lives. Through our published curriculum, we create an environment that cultivates agency; we empower individuals and communities to take control of their lives and then lean into and work to break the cycle of poverty.

Here are some of the behavioral benefits we are seeing as a result of coffee farming families graduating from My Healthy Home when coupled with the foundational platform of God’s purpose of Shalom as it applies to fighting physical, emotional, and spiritual poverty:

1. Increased motivation: When individuals have agency, they are more likely to be motivated to take action to improve their situation. This can help create a sense of empowerment and inspire individuals to break the cycle of poverty.

2. More effective solutions: When individuals are empowered to make choices and take action, they are more likely to find solutions that work for them. This can lead to more effective and sustainable solutions to poverty.

3. Enhanced community engagement: When individuals have agency, they are more likely to be engaged in their communities. This can help build stronger, more connected communities better equipped to fight poverty.

4. Improved mental health: Agency can also positively impact mental health. When individuals feel that they have control over their lives, they are less likely to experience stress and anxiety, which can be a significant barrier to overcoming poverty.

Ultimately, My Healthy Home is about more than just individual success. My Healthy Home helps build stronger, more resilient families and communities by empowering individuals and families to build a better future. The bottom line is if we can stabilize the family, we can stabilize their community. If we achieve that, we, in effect, have strengthened the global coffee industry for generations to come… and that's an incredible legacy to have!

We must be honest with ourselves within the coffee industry. To have a measurable, positive, sustained impact with the 12.5 million small shareholder coffee farmers worldwide who are producing 60% of the world's coffees, we need to work smarter at stabilizing those farmers and their families for the long term.

How do we help the next generation? By including the entire family in our My Healthy Home training program, we aid in transforming the behaviors of children, parents, and grandparents, breaking generational habits that are destructive. We’re seeing children grow up healthier, happier, and with hope for a better future!

You can see it it in their eyes, in their smiles. They have hope. Families are the foundation for better future, and we work hard to provide the tools families need to cultivate hope, to improve health, relational dynamics, and quality of life. Clean water - the impact on health is powerful! That’s why one of the first lessons in our curriculum focuses on teaching families both the importance and the how-to’s of clean and purified water. Because a healthy family is the foundation of improved lives!

The last 20 months could be a doc-series on human perseverance, compassion, and sacrifice for the sake of the mission and vision of TerraMica. The immutable principles of things that are righteous, lovely, true, worthy, pure, deserving of honor are worth fighting for. It is an honor to walk alongside this amazing group of women and men at TerraMica Honduras.

A new perspective can dramatically impact everyday life. We walk side by side with coffee farmers in their communities, helping them improve their health, their family relationships, and how they care for the environment through our curriculum. Training leads to change and we’re seeing incredible benefits happen every day!

El programa de capacitación "Mi Hogar Saludable" utiliza una metodología que permite a las personas tomar mejores decisiones y participar en acciones que impactan positivamente su bienestar y calidad de vida, lo que lleva a un cambio duradero para ellos, sus familias y sus comunidades.

TerraMica fortalece los lazos de cooperación con la municipalidad de Intibucá y Visión Mundial para impulsar procesos que beneficien a las familias más necesitadas de este municipio, abordamos la implementación del programa Mi Hogar Saludable y se definió la ejecución de proyecto complementario para impulsar hogares saludables.

TerraMica y la Municipalidad de Intibucá, sostuvieron importante reunión con lideres comunitarios de; San Pedro Duraznito, La Unión Duraznito y Duraznito La Sorto, con la finalidad de iniciar el proceso de implementación del Programa Mi Hogar Saludable dirigido a familias de estas comunidades de la etnia lenca.

El programa de capacitación “Mi Hogar Saludable” incrementa la capacidad en las familias para identificar y realizar cambios necesarios que contribuyan a mejorar la salud integral en su hogar, incluyendo los sistemas de mantenimiento, limpieza y orden en el contexto de un ambiente de relaciones familiares sanas.

TerraMica suscribió convenio marco de cooperación interinstitucional con la municipalidad de Intibucá, para continuar trabajando alineados a los indicadores definidos en el Plan de Desarrollo Municipal con enfoque en Ordenamiento Territorial.
Creemos que trabajando con aliados estratégicos institucionales podemos lograr un mejor impacto.

Trabajamos con familias vulnerables, productoras de café para equiparlas con habilidades y herramientas, empoderándolos para aliviar los efectos negativos de la pobreza, mejorar la salud y el desarrollo de sus comunidades.

La visión de TerraMica es que las comunidades rurales productoras de café que viven en pobreza extrema mejoren significativamente su calidad de vida.

TerraMica is reducing the chances of insect-borne diseases and creating safe housing environments!

After completing our “My Healthy Home” training, we see an increase of 31% to 73% of families who are now keeping their roofs safe by repairing and fixing holes. And more than 80% are also protecting their families by keeping their homes free of standing water to avoid mosquitos and other disease-carrying pests.

Helping our farmers have safe, dry homes is just one way we are working to break the chains of the poverty cycle and cultivate hope for future generations.
