To cut or not cut?

Well you already know that I just chopped my hair and I have to admit it feels amazing.

My ends were damaged. I wanted more blonde. The 4 inches we took off was much needed. And it is the healthiest my hair has been in ages.
Sometimes we are afraid our hair won’t grow back like it was when we cut a lot of hair off.

But this is false!

As long as you are maintaining trims every 6-8 weeks and using thermal protection when flat ironing or curling or even blow drying- your hair will grow.

So moral of the story - Cut the hair!

Do I need a shower head filter?
It’s quite possible! Here are some reasons why you may need to invest in one:
1. You have hard water 💦
2. You have an older home with copper pipes
3. You have vivid hair color and it seems to be fading quickly
4. You just want the best water for your hair

Happy new year! I wanted to take a moment to share a few facts about me as a hairstylist for my new followers!
1. I am named after Breck Shampoo.
2. I have been doing hair since 2011.
3. I first went to college to be a meteorologist then realized I hated school.
4. I didn’t actually enjoy doing hair until I began working in a salon. I hated it during beauty school!
5. I am a licensed cosmetologist but focus on only hair as that is my favorite part!
6. I have 5 siblings !

We are getting a new name! In the next few weeks you may see a change to the outdoor sign with the salons new name change, BREKK & CO. SALON

Will I still work the same hours behind the chair?
- Yes! I absolutely will. No change in my schedule one bit!

What type of heat protectant right for me?

Do you currently use a heat protector before you curl or straighten your hair? How do you know which type is best? I have all the answers for you here!

First, you should know that there are two kinds of thermal protectants- one for smoothing and the other to hold.

Why?

One is great for straightening your hair and protecting it so it stays smooth and frizz free. The other has a little bit of a holding agent inside to hold your curls when you use a wand or curling iron.
If you use the smoothing type on your hair when you are wanting it to hold a curl- it won’t. And if you use one that had some hold to it before you flat iron, well, it might get sticky and the iron may not smooth very well.

How to make your curls stay all day!

1. Second day hair is the BEST day to curl your hair. Freshly washed hair is too healthy and you may need some wear for it to hold.
2. Make sure you are using a thermal heat protectant that has hold to it! Oil based protection will not hold those curls. Save that for when you flat iron your hair.
3. Be sure to not straighten it with a flat iron before curling. You may naturally have frizzy hair and want to do this, but don’t. This will not allow your hair to curl. Instead, use a heat round brush, like the Revlon One Step, then curl.
4. Do not touch those curls until they have completely cooled off. This gives it time to set.
5. Enjoy those curls ❤️

🚨 COVID update! 🚨

As you may have seen that the mask mandate has been lifted for vaccinated individuals. At this time, I am following the same protocol as before. This means masks are still required for all clients, no matter if you are vaccinated or not. As a hairstylist licensed through DORA(department of regulatory agencies)I have to follow their guidelines for personal services and they have not changed our regulations yet.

If this changes at any point, I will be in touch and update you on this change.

I often get asked “how do I curl my own hair, Brekk?” ⁠

The key to these simple, low key curls is to curl from the middle of the hair you pick out to curl, and then work the iron up. I’ve seen time and time again curling from the bottom part of the hair and twisting the wand up to the top. ⁠
⁠
Instead, grab that one inch piece of hair and clamp the iron halfway down. This will avoid curling the ends. Then twist the iron up to the top and leave about an inch of hair out of the iron. ⁠
⁠
Using a heat protection spray also will lock In those curls and protect your hair from damage. My fav?? Kenra 19. Next time you visit me- mention this post for a special offer on this spray. ⁠

Another pro tip- turn down the heat on your iron!! If you’re slower at curling your hair, use less heat to allow yourself more time to perfect this technique so you’re not rushed by the heat. ⁠

I’m excited to announce my salon return date, May 3. I’ll be working a few hours a day the first couple weeks then adding more hours thereafter.

I’ll be opening my booking system THIS SATURDAY MARCH 20 @ 10:00am Here’s how to book :

⭐️For haircut only appointments(NO COLOR):

email me directly to book at [email protected] beginning March 20 @ 10am. I have reserved certain days for haircut only appointments to ensure availability. If you email me prior to March 20 I will not book it until 10am on March 20th

⭐️For all COLOR & CUT combination services:

use my booking site to do so. I’ve made two different color slots - one 2 hour slot and another that is 2.5 hours. If you’re unsure how long your appointment usually takes-just book the longer one and I’ll adjust it after. I understand some color appointments take less then those slots, this will ensure enough time no matter what.

I understand that I may not be able to get everyone the first month back, the next month will be much easier as I add more hours to my schedule.

I will open June booking and beyond at a later date, I will announce it via email when it is open for booking. Therefore pre booking beyond your next appointment will not be available until then.

I will be re-opening my online booking site when I know of our baby boy’s arrival. I will first send out an email to you, letting you know the exact day and time I will be re-opening my books. ⁠

I have designated specific time slots on my booking website based on the services you normally would get. If you are unsure of the time slot, be sure to just book for a longer one, just in case. If you accidentally book for a shorter time slot then we need, then the chances of you having to cancel and rebook are greater and that wouldn’t be fun. So when-in-doubt - book for a longer slot. ⁠

When I come back from leave, please also note that I won’t be back full time right away. I will be easing my way back in the salon to be sure if fits our(baby and me) new schedule. I appreciate your patience during this time as we navigate back into our new schedule. ⁠

Looking for an appointment this holiday season??

You may have noticed my booking site “shows” I am blacked/booked up the rest of the year. This is incorrect.
I currently am offering advanced bookings up to 30 days in advance.

Why you may ask?

To give everyone a fair chance to book their appointment before Baby Boy comes, and with the unexpected,
it is easier to reschedule if baby wants to make an appearance sooner then his due date.
