It was our honor and privilege to participate in a “decoration day” ceremony at Old Greencastle Cemetery today. Decoration Day was first celebrated in 1868, on the 30th of May each year. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War do such a great job keeping the memory of our fallen soldiers alive and revered. Thank you to Representative Phill Plummer for coming out and speaking some words to honor those present, both those buried long ago and those there to pay their respects.
Today, we had the honor and privilege to display our garrison flag before the Calvary Cemetery Memorial Mass. In honor and deep respect for all those who gave the last full measure of devotion for their country, thank you!
Congratulations to Troop 515’s 3rd Eagle Scout, Sarah! A founding member of the troop, she has truly lived the scout law and spirit. What an honor to witness this achievement!
Congratulations on a finished Eagle project, Kyle! Three tables for the Centerville high school environmental science market garden to be used as an outdoor classroom.
Having a garage sale? Save your leftovers and donate to a good cause!
The Great Master of all Scouts provides! A couple months ago our troop trailer was stolen. Today, Troop 466 from Saint Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia generously donated their trailer to us! It is unfortunate that this was made possible by that troop folding, but we could not possibly be more grateful! Thank you Dennis and the entire St. Chris church family. God willing, your trailer will see many more campsites and summer camps. Already, Troop 5515 is using the trailer on a campout!
Congratulations🎉 to Evelyn for her achievement to Eagle Scout tonight. 🦅⚜Proud Family and Troop 515. The 4th Eagle Scout for our Troop and counting.
Congratulations Rowan! Seeing these names on the banner, I wondered if 516 Eagles might share when they earned Eagle and what their projects were? Tag any old Eagles you know. Would love to hear their stories!
Today at 4pm! Come celebrate Troop 516’s latest Eagle Scout, Mr. Rowan Spaulding! All are welcome, especially former scouts and leaders from 515 or 516. Celebration will be in the chapel at Southminster Presbyterian Church
Another Eagle project in the books! The Fairmont High School Garden Shed got a nice makeover!
Sad to report that our beloved troop trailer was stolen over the weekend! If you see it around, please let the police know. It’s not worth a lot, but it was worth a lot to us. Goodbye dear trailer, we will miss you. You served our young men and women well for many years!

Troop 516 had a great weekend adventure at Torrent Falls(Southeast Mountain Guides) and Natural Bridge State Park in Kentucky! A lot of scouts learned what the Brave part of the scout law means!
Earlier this month, something pretty amazing happened in the Troop 516 universe. This is the Frothy Dogs Patrol, who joined the troop in 1998 and graduated in 2005. Troop 516 brought them all together and saw them become close friends as they went on all kinds of camping adventures.
Scouting builds lifelong friendships, and no matter where life takes you after leaving the troop, those friendships persist. The Frothy Dogs patrol had a tradition of doing a patrol cabin trip each year. Earlier this month, all 8 members of the patrol got together for a reunion at a cabin in the Hocking Hills area. Some travelled great distances to come back from their homes in Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Washington, and even Canada.
They all sat around a campfire the first night and reminisced all the great times that were had while in Troop 516, and all the crazy adventures that were had. Looking back 20 years, some of the most memorable trips were the ones that were the most challenging. They all remembered the adventures of countless summer camps, skiing, caving, backpacking, and also high adventure trips to Philmont, the Boundary Waters, whitewater rafting, and backpacking the Colorado Rockies.
The rest of the weekend was spent catching up on each other’s lives, playing games, and hiking the trails through the state park. It was as if they had never been away from each other for the last few/many years.
Their advice to the current generation of Scouts is to take advantage of every opportunity that Troop 516 and the Scouting program gives you. Go on every adventure. Make great friends. There are so many unique opportunities that Scouting gives you that you just can’t find anywhere else.
Check it out while you still can!
