In today’s fast-paced world, texting has become a convenient way to stay connected with clients. Giving your clients your cell number can be incredibly useful—allowing them to notify you in real-time if they’re running late, need to cancel an appointment, or are available to fill a last-minute opening. This immediate communication can help keep your schedule running smoothly and ensure that no opportunity is missed.
However, there’s a fine line between being accessible and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Giving clients unlimited access to your personal phone isn’t just a potential safety risk; it can also blur the boundaries between your professional and personal life. Constantly being "on-call" can lead to burnout, making it harder to switch off and recharge.
Here’s how to strike the right balance:
1. Set Clear Boundaries: Establish specific hours during which you’re available for client communication. Communicate these boundaries clearly to your clients from the start.
2. Use Business Tools: Consider using a separate business number or a communication app that allows you to manage client interactions without giving out your personal number.
3. Respect Your Time: Don’t feel obligated to respond to non-urgent messages outside of business hours. Your personal time is just as important as your professional responsibilities.
4. Educate Your Clients: Let your clients know why these boundaries are in place. They’re more likely to respect your time if they understand that it helps you provide them with the best possible care.
By setting and maintaining these boundaries, you can enjoy the benefits of modern communication while protecting your time, safety, and well-being. It’s all about finding that balance where you’re accessible, but not always available.

How often do you cringe at the term "Masseuse" and immediately correct it to "MASSAGE THERAPIST"? Originally, "masseuse" referred to a female massage provider, while "masseur" was used for males. Unfortunately, the term has been misappropriated by those offering "alternative" services—essentially, prostitution. As I continue developing my course, "Safeguarding Practitioners from Inappropriate Behavior," I keep uncovering more concerning material.
