Chandelier circa 2010. I made this light for our kitchen in Philadelphia. The beautiful curly maple shades were made by George Biersdorf, another talented woodworker. The arms were rejects from a CNC project that I found in the trash.

I love to utilize the dovetail key aka butterfly joint aka bow tie aka Dutchman’s joint!

It’s a type of joint used either to hold two or more wooden boards together or to keep two halves of a board that have already started to split from splitting further. They are also commonly used as decorative inlays for non structural aesthetic purposes.

A negative of the hole is cut out of the board the butterfly will be placed in and the butterfly is then fitted, keeping the joint together.

Bow ties have been used both in decorative and structural joints since ancient times. The Egyptians used them in boat building. They were also historically used in repairing cracks in dutch tabletops in the 18th century.

Black oak coffee table…

I made this from a historic “champion” oak tree that was felled in a storm in 2017. The trunk had a diameter of 6.5’ . It was 181 years old!

“Floating” bed in ash.

For this bed, I recessed the feet underneath to give the look that it was floating. You can’t see the feet if you’re standing.

The padded headboard “bars” were wrapped in high quality leather. Each of the integrated bedside cabinets housed a single drawer.

A custom bed made just for you is an inspiring way to start each day! One client, after sleeping in his custom bed for some time, called me up and enthusiastically thanked me. Upon opening his eyes, he would see this object of beauty and it would start each day right!

This desk was a joy to build. The maple had beautiful curl/tiger striping throughout. Walnut pe***ng in the leg joinery was a nice little accent.

Cherry server circa 2005. The sides had a slight inward angle to them making the bottom narrower than the top. The design definitely harkens back to my early training in Shaker furniture. I did try to dress it up by adding contemporary handles, trim, and the detail on the foot.

Kitchen islands offer the opportunity to add some uniqueness to your space. Perhaps you don’t need a completely new kitchen (I do those, too),maybe you can make your existing kitchen dynamic by adding a one of a kind island!

I used a beautiful curly maple veneer for the base cabinets of this one. It added a huge amount of storage, too.

The top is salvaged butcher block maple that came out of a high school wood shop. I cleaned up most of the names carved into it, scraped the gum off the bottom, and sanded it for a fresh new surface. The integrated fruit bowl added a nice touch!

A HUGE thanks to all the customers, friends, supporters, and artists who took part in the 2nd annual Penn National Open Studio Tour this past weekend!!

So many people turned out to support local art in South Central PA! It was a huge success for myself and the other participating artists.

I was honored to be able to show so many people my showroom, workshop, and current projects. I can’t wait to do it again next year. It’s going to be even bigger and better!

The Artists Studio Tour at Penn National is this weekend! Come visit 8 studios featuring unique and beautiful work by 14 local artisans. A great opportunity to find the perfect gift! Studios are open Saturday and Sunday, December 2 & 3 from 11am-3pm.

There’s a new side table in the works!

I made an extra when I completed the maple side tables a few commissions ago.

This one is walnut with a maple top and drawer front. I love the bowed legs. I’m thinking about a shelf, but not sure at this point.
