Understanding hemoglobin A1c is key to managing and understanding your blood sugar! π
Hemoglobin A1c is a form of hemoglobin that is chemically linked to glucose, providing an average of your blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months by gauging how "sticky" your red blood cells are with sugar, also known as Advanced Glycation End-products or AGEs. AGEs contribute to various health issues, including diabetes-related complications, cardiovascular diseases, and aging. Normal levels are below 5.7%, pre-diabetes ranges from 5.7% to 6.4%, and diabetes is 6.5% or higher. π©Έ Elevated A1c levels indicate higher average blood sugar and are used to diagnose and manage diabetes. Consistency is crucial, as it takes about 2-3 months to see changes in A1c levels!

Letβs talk about blood sugar! π How does your body react when you have a sweet treat? Learn more about what a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) is and how it can dive into real time measurements of how your body is reacting to your everyday favorite foods.
Sugar is a major threat to your hormonal wellness. It gives a short-term boost, but itβs followed by fatigue, irritability, and brain fog. Regular sugar consumption over time can cause obesity, hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver, and disrupt your hormonal balance.
On average, Americans consume about 17 teaspoons of sugar each dayβthatβs nearly 120 teaspoons a week! This sugar spikes your blood sugar, triggering an insulin release. If the sugar isnβt used for immediate energy, itβs stored as fat. This spike is followed by a crash, leading to that βhangryβ feeling - fatigue, and irritability. Occasional spikes are manageable, but frequent sugar intake leads to insulin resistance and increased fat storage.
High sugar intake also impacts hormones, worsening menstrual cramps, mood swings, sleep issues, and even depression in women. For men, it can lower testosterone levels, increase cortisol, and cause mood swings. Both men and women can experience insulin resistance, leptin resistance, and experience adrenal fatigue.
The key to managing sugar is balance and moderation. Pay close attention to nutrition labels for hidden sources of sugar or sneaky sugar alternatives. Choose natural sugars, stay active, and opt for protein over sugar to maintain hormonal health and overall wellness.

β¨ Support healthy blood sugar metabolism
β€οΈ Promote cardiovascular health
π¬ Support normal lipid metabolism
π‘οΈ Enhance antioxidative status

Together, berberine and ALA may provide synergistic properties to help promote healthy metabolism. Berberine Synergyβ’ may help support normal blood sugar metabolism, healthy cardiovascular function, antioxidative status, and cellular health.
Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) are game-changers! π These wearable devices track your glucose levels in real-time, showing how food, exercise, sleep, and even stress can impact your blood sugar. πββοΈ Meals high in protein, healthy fats, and fiber help stabilize blood sugar and prevent spikes. By seeing these patterns, you can make smarter lifestyle choices. CGMs are an incredible tool for balancing blood sugar, reducing insulin spikes, promoting fat loss, and achieving sustainable lifestyle changes.

As a Naturopathic Physician, she has received training in nutrition, herbal medicine, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, minor surgery, and pharmacology.
Her passion lies in using an integrative approach to treat and prevent chronic diseases like diabetes, metabolic disease, thyroid disorders, autoimmune conditions, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances. She is dedicated to listening to her patients and working with them to find an individualized plan that focuses on optimizing their diet, lifestyle, and specific metabolic needs to get them feeling their best.
The treatment modalities that Dr. Gliniecki often likes to use include bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, peptide therapy, vitamin injections and nutrient IVs, dietary modification and supplementation, lifestyle optimization, and aesthetic procedures like Botox, fillers, and PDO threads. In her free time, Dr. Gliniecki enjoys spending time with her husband and two cats, Cash and Oliver.

πΏπͺ Supporting Our Celiac Community at Protea πͺπΏ Living with Celiac Disease can be a journey, but you don't have to navigate it alone. At Protea, we're committed to providing comprehensive care that addresses not just the symptoms, but the whole person.
Our approach focuses on optimal gut health because we know it's fundamental to overall well-being. Our physicians collaborate closely with our nutrition team to develop personalized dietary plans tailored to each individual's needs. We understand that gluten can sneak into unexpected places, like sauces, marinades, and even some cosmetics and medications!
But it's not just about avoiding gluten. We dig deeper, addressing nutrient deficiencies that often arise with Celiac, such as vitamin D, B vitamins, iron, and calcium. We also tackle dysbiosis, SIBO, and SIFO - common complications of Celiac Disease - through targeted protocols aimed at restoring balance to the gut microbiome.
Our goal is to empower our patients to have the best resources and knowledge to thrive. We're here to provide support, guidance, and expertise every step of the way. π
πΎπ May is Celiac Disease Awareness Month! ππΎ Did you know that approximately 1 in 100 people are living with Celiac disease in the US alone? That means millions of individuals navigate a gluten-free lifestyle every day.
Living with Celiac or awaiting a diagnosis can be challenging and frustrating. Celiac disease often flies under the radar, mimicking other gastrointestinal issues, leading to underdiagnosis. But what exactly is it? Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition where the body's immune system reacts to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. When someone with Celiac consumes gluten, it triggers an immune response that damages the small intestine lining.
Symptoms can vary widely, but common ones include bloating, diarrhea, fatigue, and weight loss. Diagnosing Celiac isn't always straightforward. While blood tests can provide clues, a definitive diagnosis usually requires a biopsy of the small intestine.
Now, what about gluten intolerance? It's not the same as Celiac disease. While both involve adverse reactions to gluten, gluten intolerance doesn't cause the same autoimmune response or damage to the small intestine as Celiac. It's essential to distinguish between the two for proper management.
For those managing Celiac, maintaining optimal gut health is key. It's not just about avoiding gluten; it's about nourishing your body, reducing inflammation and supporting your digestive system.
To all those living with Celiac or on the journey to discovering if that is your personal diagnosis, know that there are ways to manage it and live your best life. πͺπ
Unlock the power of Vitamin C! π Did you know this essential vitamin plays a crucial role in maintaining skin integrity, wound healing, and overall health? Vitamin C is important in the creation of many enzymes, in anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and promotes anti-infection properties. Supplementation during cold and flu season can decrease the duration and severity of the common cold. IV supplementation can create blood concentrations of Vitamin C not possible with oral supplementation or diet alone. IV supplementation helps to decrease symptoms of fatigue, improve emotional and cognitive health, and improve physical endurance. If you need a boost, Vitamin C is a great option for a quick pick me up. πͺ

πΈ Understanding PCOS & Women's Health πΈ
Did you know that Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) stands as the leading cause of infertility, affecting 1 in 10 women of childbearing age worldwide? This condition isn't just about reproductive health; it's a complex interplay of hormonal imbalances impacting various facets of women's well-being. πΊπ«
PCOS significantly challenges fertility due to multifaceted mechanisms. Hyperandrogenism, a hallmark of PCOS, means there's an excess of male hormones in the female body. This can lead to symptoms like acne, excess hair growth (particularly on the face and body), and even hair loss, impacting not just physical appearance but also self-esteem. Additionally, hyperandrogenism disrupts folliculogenesis, interfering with the normal maturation of ovarian follicles.
Moreover, insulin resistance, commonly associated with PCOS, exerts detrimental effects on ovarian function, further impeding ovulation and menstrual regularity. ππ
The impact of PCOS extends beyond fertility concerns, affecting metabolic health, cardiovascular risks, and mental well-being. Early diagnosis and management are crucial in navigating these challenges effectively. πͺπ½β¨

True mental resilience isn't just about toughing it out. Internalizing daily struggles can heighten anxiety and tension, leading to unhealthy coping mechanisms like substance abuse. Instead, focus on enjoying life and effectively managing stressors. Seeking support when needed is crucial for resilience. Here are some simple yet powerful steps to boost your resilience starting today:
β¨ Establish a consistent daily routine to minimize unexpected stressors.
π§ Access mental health resources to enhance your resilience and well-being.
π€ Connect with others offline or through volunteering to foster trusting relationships.
π§ββοΈ Practice mindfulness through meditation, exercise, or deep breathing.
π¨ Spend time on activities that bring you genuine joy.
π€ Prioritize self-care by getting adequate sleep and eating nutritiously.
π And don't forget to laugh moreβseriously! Laughter is a powerful resilience booster.
Cracking the code of insulin resistance! π When cells defy insulin signals, blood sugar levels skyrocket, setting the stage for significant health concerns. Insulin resistance amplifies the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular ailments, and can fuel weight gain, culminating in obesity. Early detection and intervention play a critical role in protecting your health and fostering long-term well-being.
In addition to medical support, exploring natural ways to manage and treat endometriosis can complement your journey to wellness:
π± Balancing Hormones: Incorporate practices like regular exercise, stress reduction techniques, and adequate sleep to help regulate hormone levels naturally.
π½οΈ Anti-inflammatory Diet: Embrace whole, nutrient-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Minimize processed foods, sugar, and caffeine, which can exacerbate inflammation.
π₯¦ Organic Foods: Opt for organic produce and hormone-free meats to reduce exposure to pesticides and additives that may disrupt hormonal balance.
πΏ Supporting Detoxification: Enhance your body's natural detoxification processes by staying hydrated, consuming fiber-rich foods, and even incorporating activities that promote sweating such as sauna therapy.
π Supplements: Consult with a healthcare provider about incorporating supplements which may help alleviate inflammation and support overall health.
π‘ Reduce Environmental Toxins: Reduce exposure to household toxins by using natural cleaning products, avoiding endocrine disrupting fragrances and perfumes, choosing organic bedding and clothing, and minimizing plastic use.
π§ββοΈ Stress Management: Practice stress-relieving techniques such as yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, and mindfulness to promote relaxation and hormonal balance.
Remember, every individual's journey with endometriosis is unique. Finding the right combination of lifestyle changes, natural remedies, and medical interventions is key to managing symptoms and improving quality of life. πΈ
