City of Chanhassen, Minnesota Government
Chanhassen is a small, Minnesota community located just southwest of the Twin Cities of MN.
Our plow crews are finishing up high-priority routes as they clean up from this morning's snow. With more snow forecasted this evening & tomorrow morning, staff will continue to monitor the weather this evening & assess the road conditions tomorrow at 2 AM, dispatching crews accordingly.
Keep yourself & your family safe by ensuring the products you purchase are safe for your home. An easy way to do this is to keep up-to-date on product safety recalls for items that pose a fire risk. Visit our Fire Department's Community Risk Reduction page for a list of recalled items: https://ow.ly/vO0k50PRh9P

Mailboxes placed too close to the street or mounted too low may be prone to damage by snow removal equipment. Mailboxes & posts should be constructed sturdily to withstand the force of the snow left behind by the plow, built 42-48 in. above street level, & be flush with the back of the curb. The City does not repair, replace, or reimburse for mailbox damage unless physically hit by our snow plow.
For more information on how to protect your mailbox, click here: chanhassen.info/SnowRemoval
At the end of a weather event, sweep and collect any sand, salt, or undissolved de-icer. Any excess can be reused for the next storm. Letting them run off into our waterways is harmful to our drinking water and wildlife.

Chanhassen City offices are closed on Monday, December 25, and Tuesday, December 26.

Weather conditions can change the effectiveness of certain de-icers. Check that your de-icer is designed to work for the current temperature and conditions and only apply to surfaces that are already icy. When pavement temperatures drop below 15°, salt doesn’t melt ice. Know when to treat – De-icers and salt are not meant to replace the work of shoveling but are meant to loosen ice so it can be shoveled away.
Wondering how to get rid of your tree at the end of the holiday season? Let Scout Troop 337 lend a hand! Sign up before December 31, & Troop 337 will stop by on January 6 ($10 fee for pickup).

Consider using green alternatives to de-ice. Products containing calcium magnesium acetate (CMA) are more eco-friendly. Remember to use these products sparingly – less is better!

One 12-oz mug holds enough salt to treat a 20-foot driveway or ten sidewalk squares. Use de-icers and salt sparingly - a little bit goes a long way. Be sure to check the temperature and weather conditions. Let the sun be your friend - if temperatures are expected to rise, de-icers or salt may not be needed.
We want to hear from you! A new FlashVote survey is open now.
