Hugs & Pups

Let’s kick off week two with some dog hair a.k.a. Molly glitter, and a hug! Come see us near Wilson Library before it gets so hot we melt!

You did it!! You made it through the first week! For some of you we know it was very difficult and we’re proud of ALL of you. If you’re new here or you’ve never met Blue the Great Dane, now’s your chance. He’s the one that named our favorite hangout spot on campus, “Blue’s Corner”. Someday we will get it on a UNC map officially 😉 Today, look for him in The Pit. As always, check here for location changes in case our chosen spot is full and we have to plant our furry selves elsewhere. Can’t wait to hear about how things are going with you!

Friday proved to be a HAPPEE Day wrapping up the students’ first week of classes! We had all SMILES, lots of HUGS, and of course Sir Duke was living the dream with all the students’ attention and and photo-ops! .natl Dare Johnston

TWO HAPPEE dogs on campus?! Yes please! You’ve earned it by hanging in there all week. Catch Apollo in Blue’s Corner (near Wilson library, if you’ve met us this week it’s the same area we’ve been in. The shady perfect spot was named by our Great Dane, Blue). See you soon!

We will be there Monday from 10:15 until 11:45 or until it’s too hot for the floof. SO excited to see you again, and make some new friends!!

Whenever we are on campus for a regular shift/stroll during the week, there will be a team in Blue's Corner. Where's that, you ask? At the circled X on this map! It's at the front corner between Wilson and House Undergraduate Libraries.

For example, we will be in Blue's Corner on Monday, 8/19, from about 10:15-11:45, or until our super fluffy Miss Molly (that's right - Miss Molly!!!!) gets too hot to stay any longer, whichever comes first. Please note: that will be the case until it cools off and we are confident that our pups can last the full 90 minute shift without getting overheated.

Btw you won't find Blue's Corner on anyone else's map. It's all ours. 😉

Shelby (with her pup and bestie Maggie) was able to love on our pups during her three years at Carolina. Unfortunately, going through some rocky times in college Is universal, but she always knew where to find us for some extra dog fur and lots of love. ❤️❤️❤️

Speaking of "miss", we miss you! But we hope you have a relaxing, reenergizing summer. Please take some time to sleep, just "be" in nature while listening to the birds sing, focus on loving yourself, unplug, play with dogs, and hang out with people who love you and treat you with respect. You deserve all of that and more. We love you! ❤️

Victoria - with Apollo - has been a stalwart player during HAPPEE's biweekly Online Game Night, even bringing others to join in on the fun. We hope that even though she's graduated and she won't be able to come see us in person 😭 she'll keep playing with us! Regardless, we will miss seeing her beautiful face in person. Congratulations, Victoria!!

When you can't pick just one... is already one of us in our hearts so our fingers are crossed that she'll become one of our non-student volunteers next year as well. Congratulations, bestie!!

Congratulations to our dear friend Christine! She didn't send us a pic but i found this one and watched her graduate (YAY CHRISTINE!!) so I wanted to share it. We are so proud of Christine and all the rest of our beloved seniors!

Congratulations to all of "our" Spring 2024 UNC-CH graduates, including !! We are so very, very proud of all of you! We know it hasn't been an easy journey but we have seen how hard you have worked to get to this point, and we are thrilled for you now that you've finally gotten here!!

We would like to celebrate you in true HAPPEE fashion. Please message us your favorite pic of you with one of our HAPPEE pups so we can post it on our social media accounts. If there is a group of students in the pic, be sure we know which one is you, and if more than one of you is graduating, tell us how to tag the other(s).

If you don't have a pic of yourself with a HAPPEE pup, then send us your favorite pic of you that represents your accomplishment in some way. A graduation pic is great, but so is any other pic that is meaningful to you.

We are going to miss you next year (that may be the hardest part of what we do 😭) but wherever you are going, please remember that you are loved, exactly the way that you are, and we will always be right here on social media (including Discord!!) if you ever need us. While HAPPEE Hugs and Pups has no stance on the political issues involved in the peaceful protest at UNC-Chapel Hill on Tuesday, April 30, we are profoundly saddened at the resulting events. We strongly condemn the violent actions taken against the UNC students and other peaceful protesters. We believe that human life and safety is of paramount importance. The freedom to peacefully protest is critically important to the future of our nation. We are beyond sickened by the images of students being harmed on the Quad. April 30th was a dark day on campus and a heartbreaking way to end an academic year that began with the tragedy of a school shooting. For the 2024 seniors, it has marred the conclusion of their four years at UNC that began with the chaos of the pandemic shutdown. We are devastated on behalf of these law--abiding young adults; Carolina students and all peaceful protesters deserve better than the violence that was unnecessarily inflicted upon them that day.
