Daily exercise counters health risks from prolonged sitting.
Research from 1953 discovered that bus drivers (prolonged sitting)
were at greater risk for heart disease then the bus conductors
(standing and moving.) In Western culture it is not unusual for people to sit more than eight hours a day in their work and leisure. Prolonged sitting puts people at risk for early death.
In a literature review published in the Lancet, 16 studies were
analyzed that included over 1 million adults. They found that an hour
of moderate exercise and was sufficient to eliminate the risk of early
death secondary to prolonged sitting.
