⚜️ Meet Laura, The Hat Lady with a crazy dream that evolved into Southern Ruetz all because she couldn’t find a hat that fit her unique style.

Laura is our owner, Signature full custom hat maker and everything else in between to make sure y’all have a blast when you come into Southern Ruetz. You’ll find her everywhere throughout the store and probably around the French Quarter with a stack of hats and props. Possibly even sitting in the middle of a sidewalk to get a hat photo.

She’s our hype woman usually blasting a blend of stations ranging from elder emo to 90’s/00’s pop to CCR’s swamp rock. There may even be some dancing.

When you stop into Southern Ruetz we can guarantee that Laura won’t stop moving unless she has to. Come and say hi wherever you find her! ⚜️

Nicole is the owner of , where she creates stunning jewelry. With over 15 years of experience, she has honed her craft to perfection. You can discover her exquisite pieces upstairs at

Nicole’s meticulous attention to detail and design, honed through her jewelry making, translates seamlessly into crafting the perfect hat for you. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure you leave with a hat you absolutely love!

Meet Olivia our hat artist!

Olivia has a passion for making hats and really enjoys making more traditional styles and throwing in a good bow any chance she gets!

She is a creative artist when it comes to embellishments hand making her own hat pins available to add to your hat. The pins are made from unique Charleston pieces like sharks teeth and shells, all the way to vintage buttons and crystals.

Meet Durelle, one of our lead hat artists in the hat bar!

Durelle will always go above and beyond to ensure that your hat fits your personality! His infectious laugh and fun spirit will bring another layer into your experience when you pull up a chair at the bar designing a hat with him. You’ll always find him grabbing a few more things that will add just the right touch to make your hat perfect.

Durelle is a painter who also has a studio space upstairs in our , so even on his days off you can find him painting and creating beautiful art. He recently has finished a book shortly after joining us and just started to share more on his journey with

If you’ve stopped in before, you’ve most likely met Sarah up in our ! She’s not only is helping y’all out at check out, but she also is one of our Maker Mall artists owning

All our hat artists are artists themselves in many various forms and Sarah’s just happens to be fashion design and modeling

When you have an appointment with Sarah, it will not only be fun and exciting, but she’ll ensure your hat truly represents your personality and style and we will probably get a photo of y’all in it together!

His name is Cricky!

After adding the handmade genuine crocodile skin hat band, it started to make us think of Steve Irwin. With the band and the color resembling his signature uniform, it just fit! This hat is fully handmade and one of a kind, but it’s served as inspiration for many hats we have made in the hat bar.

Made with our Pinã Colada color and another guest favorite, the twisted hurricane crown. Last, a bit of an upturn on the brim.

You can create a similar style with us in the hat bar if this isn’t totally your vibe! We offer the same color in our luxury hats in the hat bar where you can design your own!

As a Signature one of one creation, we won’t ever make two of the same in this exact hat.

We love creating exclusivity here at Southern Ruetz with our custom hats. Whether it’s the one of one in the Signature line, like Gone Country, or in the hat bar with our exclusive vintage fabrics and pins.

People don’t believe us all the time when we say out of thousands of hats now, we still have not created two of the same. The only time we do is in our ready to wear collections, but even then small details like the sweatband stitching color may be different.

We love ensuring every person we meet gets an exclusive experience. Every person is different, so your hat should be as well!
