10/08/2022

Today Bishop Sandra opens up Proverbs 25 where the wise teacher instructs us to do good to our enemies. Revenge, or getting even, only perpetuates a cycle of harm while acts of kindness can lead to transformed hearts and minds.

What is God saying to you in this time of reflection?

Proverbs 25:22-26
If your enemies are hungry, give them bread to eat;
and if they are thirsty, give them water to drink;
for you will heap coals of fire on their heads,
and the Lord will reward you.
The north wind produces rain,
and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.
It is better to live in a corner of the housetop
than in a house shared with a contentious person.
Like cold water to a thirsty soul,
so is good news from a far country.
Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain
are the righteous who give way before the wicked.

10/05/2022

As the people of The United Methodist Church, our call is to share the love of Jesus with others and to spread scriptural holiness across the land. So, what does this mean?

10/01/2022

This morning Bishop Sandra opens up Proverbs 22 and reflects on how we approach our relationships. When we have discussions based on love, we can trust that Jesus is at the center.

Proverbs 22: 24-25
Don’t befriend people controlled by anger;
don’t associate with hot-tempered people;
otherwise, you will learn their ways
and become trapped.

All Who Know and Love Your City (UM Hymal #433)

All who love and serve your city,
All who bear its daily stress,
All who cry for peace and justice,
All who curse and all who bless.

Seek the Lord, who is your life.

Mountaineer Area Council - Circuit Rider 32 08/22/2022

Registration deadline extended
for Annual Gathering, Circuit Rider

The registration deadline for both the West Virginia United Methodist Men’s Annual Gathering and Circuit Rider 32 has been extended to Midnight Aug. 25th.

“The original deadline was today, Friday, Aug. 19,” said George Hohmann, president of the West Virginia United Methodist Men. The men sponsor both events, which will be Sept. 9-11 at West Virginia University’s Jackson’s Mill, near Weston.

“Extending the deadline will provide men and Scout units that have not yet registered an opportunity to do so,” Hohmann said. “Several Scout units have started the registration process but haven’t finished. The extended deadline gives them more time to do so.”

Hohmann noted that Circuit Rider pre-registration wasn’t required in the past. Not only is it mandatory this year, it must be done online at https://scoutingevent.com/615-CircuitRider32

“We’re asking both Methodist men and Scouters to adopt these new behaviors so organizers can better plan the events and the Jackson’s Mill staff can order the proper amount of food,” Hohmann said. The Methodist Men will provide a free dinner to all Scouts and Scout leaders on Saturday evening, Sept. 10, at Jackson’s Mill’s Mt. Vernon Dining Hall.
For more information about the men’s Annual Gathering, e-mail Hohmann at [email protected] or call him at (304) 419-1916.
For more information about Circuit Rider e-mail West Virginia Annual Conference Scout Coordinator Ralph Herron at [email protected] or call him at (304) 366-1851.

Offerings at Annual Gathering,
worship service to aid disaster victims

Offerings taken up during the West Virginia United Methodist Men’s Annual Gathering and the worship service on Sunday, Sept. 10, at WVU Jackson’s Mill will benefit disaster victims.

In accord with the wishes of United Methodist West Virginia Area Bishop Sandra Steiner Ball, the offering on Sunday morning Sept. 11 during the worship service at Jackson’s Mill will go to the West Virginia Conference Disaster relief fund.

The worship service is attended by many of the United Methodist Men who attend the men’s Annual Gathering and many of the Scouts and Scout leaders who attend Circuit Rider.

Bishop Steiner Ball explained that the West Virginia United Methodist Conference has sent and is sending funds to Kentucky for disaster relief out of the West Virginia Conference disaster relief fund.
The West Virginia fund is maintained for disaster use inside and outside of the West Virginia Conference for needs that are not covered by the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), the church’s global humanitarian aid and development organization.

“Right now, due to giving out of the West Virginia fund for both Kentucky and Tennessee, the West Virginia fund has been depleted from the level we try to maintain for emergencies and needs that are not covered by UMCOR,” the bishop said.

The West Virginia United Methodist Men’s Executive Committee has directed the offering collected Friday evening Sept. 9 during the Men’s Annual Gathering at Jackson’s Mill to go to Kentucky flood relief.

There will be two offerings during the Annual Gathering’s Saturday morning program: An offering will be collected for Kentucky flood relief. Also, a love offering will be collected as appreciation for the musician who will play requested music during the Friday evening and Saturday morning programs.

Greetings to you in the name of Christ from Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church!

Our church is hosting an event to which we would like to extend to your congregation an invitation. On Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11:00am, our church's grief support ministry is sponsoring a luncheon featuring guest speaker Patty Perdue. Safe Sanctuaries Training

This three-hour Safe Sanctuaries training helps you create a Safe Sanctuaries policy for your church and equips you to teach volunteers in your local setting. The training covers: why policies are essential, screening staff and volunteers, supervision, cyber safety, and responding to and reporting abuse. After completing this training, you will receive a certificate of completion and resources to help you craft your local church policy and additional training.
This in-person training teaches you how to write a Safe Sanctuary Policy for your local church and enables you to teach the material in your local setting. A simplified training for volunteers (covering supervision, screening, and mandatory reporting) can be found on the Conference’s online learning platform, Portico. It can be found at https://wvumc.myabsorb.com/ #/online-courses/8fabb9b8-4884-490f-b796-4bccfe5729f8
*Please note the online training does not cover how to write a policy and does not equip you to train others, it does meet the requirement of training for volunteers.
All materials will be provided for this training. If your church has a current Safe Sanctuaries policy, please bring a copy with you.

Safe Sanctuaries’ support and training (both in-person and online) are possible because of your fair share giving. Thank you for your faithful generosity!

This morning Bishop Sandra opens up Proverbs Chapter 12 - to explore these words of wisdom....

Proverbs 12:11-15
Those who work their land will have plenty to eat,
but those who engage in empty pursuits have no sense.
Desiring evil is a trap for the wicked,
but the root of the righteous endures.[a]
The wicked are trapped by the transgressions of their lips,
but the righteous escape from distress.
From the fruit of their speech, people are well satisfied;
their work results in reward.
Fools see their own way as right,
but the wise listen to advice.

This morning Bishop Sandra sings "What Gift Can We Bring" as an invitaiton to consider the gifts that we bring to honor God, and our community. Take a moment to listen.

What Gift Can We Bring
(UM Hymnal #87 verse 4)

This gift we now bring
this present this token
These words can convey
it the joy of this day.
When grateful we come
rememb'ring rejoicing
This song we now offer
in honor and praise!

This morning Bishop Sandra opens up Proverbs 8:22-31 and lifts up and celebrates the ways that God looks at creation and says again and again, "It is good!"

How are you rejoicing today? Share in the comments below.

Proverbs 8:22-31

22 “The Lord created me at the beginning of his work,
the first of his acts of long ago.
23 Ages ago I was set up,
at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
24 When there were no depths I was brought forth,
when there were no springs abounding with water.
25 Before the mountains had been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth,
26 when he had not yet made earth and fields
or the world’s first bits of soil.
27 When he established the heavens, I was there;
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
28 when he made firm the skies above,
when he established the fountains of the deep,
29 when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
30 then I was beside him, like a master worker,
and I was daily his[e] delight,
playing before him always,
31 playing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the human race.

07/13/2022

The second verse of What Gift Can We Bring, UM Hymnal page 87, is lifted up by Bishop Sandra as our exploration of our United Methodist membership vow, Gifts continues.

Give thanks for the past for those who had vision.
Who planted and watered so dreams could come true.
Give thanks for the now, for study for worship.
For mission that bids us turn prayer into deed.

How are you learning and growing this summer? Who are you encouraging to grow in love of God and neighbor?

How may we pray for you?

07/09/2022

hard work makes one rich.

07/06/2022

Today Bishop Sandra invites us to explore the third part of our United Methodist membership vows: Gifts.

What Gift Can We Bring, UM Hymnal 87

What song can we offer in honor and praise!
