People may find themselves homeless for many reasons.
The Outreach program addresses the needs of people living on the streets that are experiencing homelessness, poverty, that are in emergency shelters or transitional facilities due to incarceration, mental illness, or recovery from an addiction. With bitter cold temperatures in the forecast, a Warming Center will be available overnights at the Salvation Army, 301 Tennessee Avenue in Charleston this Thursday and Friday, 8pm – 7am. Service providers and community volunteers will be working together to be open overnight to accommodate people in need of shelter from the cold. The City of Charleston, United Way of Central West Virginia, Salvation Army, Kanawha Valley Collective, and Cabin Creek Health Center along with the Charleston Police and Fire Departments will provide staffing for the overnight warming center.
Those interested in volunteering or donating needed items like blankets, coats and cold weather gear are asked to contact Margaret O’Neal, United Way of Central WV President at 304-340-3503, or email [email protected].
The cold weather is approaching very quickly and Canaan Outreach Program is asking for the following donations. We will be headed out doing mobile outreach this year to meet more individuals where they are currently at on the streets of Charleston. Your donation or contribution can go a long way in helping an individual get through another day. Anything helps if you would like to donate to our program you can reach out by contacting me on FB or email [email protected]. I will come and pick up if delivery is not an option, delivery options will be accepted at Canaan United Methodist Church 401 Roane Street Charleston, WV 25302 by appt only

The Outreach Program is asking for the following donations for our homeless population the weather is starting to get cold at night and our resources from last year are depleted at this time
Winter hats, scarves, gloves
Tents
Blankets
Socks
Backpacks
Hand sanitizer, baby wipes
Womens feminine care products
Snack foods, pop top canned goods
Water bottles
Items can be dropped of at Canaan United Methodist Church by appt only located @ 401 Roane Street in Charleston or contact Dorian Baker @(304)721-3358 for pickup
Monetary donations are always welcome as we recieve little grant money at this time for all that we do we appreciate your kindness and generosity God Bless!
