thinking about COB? 💫
what is COB?
from vp of recruitment .meshenky “the COB experience is something that is not talked about a lot, but can be an extremely positive way for girls who are interested in joining greek life, but aren’t 100% sure! the continuous open bidding process is a much more laid back and intimate version of recruitment! the connections made during the COB process are ones that are long-lasting and meaningful for both parties. this style of recruitment allows for a much more casual and comfortable way to be introduced to greek life.“
what COB .rose.17 has to say about her experience! “I joined alpha phi as a COB in the spring of 2023, and it was easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! as a freshman I was hesitant about recruitment because it seemed overwhelming, so when I learned about COB, I couldn’t pass up the chance. there was no pressure and it was much more informal. aphi has provided me with so many opportunities to get involved, from philanthropy, to leadership positions I now hold.
I would recommend everyone go through the formal recruitment process though. it gives you opportunities to see every chapter as well as meet a lot of people, but if you don’t think it’s your thing COB was an amazing experience for me and I couldn’t be happier! aphi has brought me my future bridesmaids and helped me build my resume I wouldn’t trade this chapter for anything in the world. 💌🧸🌿”

here’s what our president has to say about her experience!
“The Alpha Phi Conference in Denver was such an amazing opportunity for me. Traveling and getting to meet so many Alpha Phis is an experience I won’t forget. I was able to learn and grow alongside not only women in my chapter but also women in other chapters. Having this chance to get out of my comfort zone and develop new relationships was huge for me. I was able to learn more about my chapter and how to further prepare for the future of Alpha Phi here at EIU.“
three of our executive members got the opportunity to spend a weekend in denver learning more about alpha phi! they had an amazing time! 🌿
why live-in wednesday! 🏡 with seniors marisol garcia and ginger gardner!!
“Living in aphi chappy was one of the best decisions ever! I loved being so close to all the girls and being able to feel that bond each and everyday. My favorite part of living in was hanging out with my girls anytime of the day. Whether it be doing homework together, cooking together, or watching movies on the couch, it was truly an awesome experience. I am glad to have made the memories I did from living in and I would not trade those for the world. I made some of my best friends from sitting on that couch until 2am!!!” - .14
“During my freshman year I commuted everyday to class. Living off campus in a different town was very hard for me. I didn’t feel like I was getting the same college experience as all of my friends. For my sophomore year, living in the chapter house was the most important thing for me. Living in has been the best decision for me. I have improved academically, gained a new sense of independence, and most importantly grown closers to all of my sisters. Some of my favorite memories in Alpha Phi are running in and out of everyone’s rooms while getting ready for formals. I wouldn’t have those great memories without living here. Everyday I’m so grateful I chose to live at aphi chappy!” -

COB edition with junior delany gray🧸🤍
“I chose Alpha Phi because when I met the women I instantly felt a connection. Upon meeting them I knew that Alpha Phi was a group of women I could grow with and constantly be pushed to be the best version of myself. Even though I was a COB and didn’t go through the recruitment process I was still able to make connections at my own pace. The second I stepped foot in the chapter house I knew I found a forever home and a group of women I will forever call my sisters!”

“Coming into college I was looking to find something that helped me feel at home and somewhere to connect and that’s exactly what I found at Alpha Phi. Being a COB I didn’t go through the normal recruitment process so I was nervous that I wasn’t going to find a place that felt like home. After meeting the girls in Aphi my nerves quickly diminished as I instantly felt connected. What stood out to me about Alpha Phi was the true friendship that the girls had. Since joining Alpha Phi I have made some of my best friends and best memories. Aphi has provided me with lifelong connections I wouldn’t have found otherwise!“ - .jean
“I came out of high school wondering how I was going to find my place at college. I had always been apart of a sports team at my school and so naturally I looked for a group of girls that would support me in the same way. During recruitment it was refreshing to get away from surface level conversations at the aphi house. I talked about all of the things that make me who I am as well as learned about the women across me and what their heart beat for. I talked to women just like me and women I was different from, but I valued each conversation because I could sense the big heart and strong character of everyone I spoke too. I started seeing traits and morals that I see in my friends and family back home and that’s when I knew. I chose alpha phi because it was the closest thing to home I had felt since arriving at eiu.“ -
