One more Program Specialist spotlight goes to Lucy Ade!
Lucy is a junior Interpersonal Communications major from Mahomet, IL. Her involvement on campus includes Student Body President, National Residence Hall Honorary Vice President, and Pride Vice President. Her favorite thing about EIU is all of the amazing people that she has met throughout the years.
Lucy’s advice to new students is “Take that chance because opportunities may not always be available!”
Our last Orientation Leader spotlight is Leo Wiltfong!
Leo is a sophomore Public Health: Emergency Management & Disaster Preparedness major from Urbana, IL. At EIU, Leo is involved as a lifeguard and with intramurals. His favorite thing about EIU is the wonderful people he has gotten to meet!
Leo’s advice to new students is “Ask questions if you are unsure about anything!”
Next up is Amel Kohli!
Amel is a sophomore Biology/Pre-med from Effingham, IL. Her involvement on campus is with Freshman Connections, MSA, AEP, & ASMB. Amel's favorite thing about EIU is the campus. She said it is so beautiful and lively, just taking a walk on a nice day makes anyone happy.
Amel's advice to new students is "Don't be afraid to talk to students in your class and make friends whether it is for help in that class or to socialize. Always take the first step to introduce yourself!"
Our next spotlight is Kisu Situmbeko!
Kisu is a junior from Indianapolis majoring in Psychology and Public Health. She is involved in Haiti Connection and the Newman Center. She is also a student ambassador for the Office of Admissions. Her favorite things about EIU are Waffles, Billy, and Ford Hall.
Kisu’s advice to new students is “Be you and do what makes you comfortable but don’t let the 4 years slip by cause you purposely always stayed in your comfort zone. Try things!”
Next spotlight is Theo Edwards!
Theo is a psychology major from Hillsboro, IL. They are a junior involved in EIU Pride, Psychology Club, Psi Chi, and Departmental Honors. Their favorite thing about EIU is the Mellin Steps. It is awesome to hang out there with friends!
Theo’s advice to new students is “Get involved on campus as soon as possible! Take advantage of any opportunities you see posted for your major!”
Wrapping up this week, the next spotlight goes to Ben Drake!
Ben is a senior History major from Westville, IL. He is involved in the Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls and National Residence Hall Honorary. His favorite things about EIU is the chicken in Taylor Hall and the friendly atmosphere.
Ben’s advice to new students is “Get involved and build relationships with other students!”
Our next spotlight is Ashley Mlinar!
Ashley is a sophomore Studio Art major from Springfield, IL. She is involved in the Honors College, Gamers Guild, and New Student and Family Programs. Her favorite things about EIU are Doudna, the campus layout, the professors, and the community!
Ashley’s advice to new students is “Talk to your professors! They want to help you the best they can!”
Starting off this week, our spotlight goes to Ethan Schobernd!
Ethan is a Music Education major from Hardin, IL. He is a junior involved in EIU Bands, the Honors College, and Departmental Honors. His favorite thing about EIU is the people that he has met have changed his life and made his experience at EIU even better!
Ethan’s advice to new students is “Make connections as soon as possible. Your friends and professors will hep you thrive at EIU!”

Haley is a sophomore Studio Art major from Springfield, IL. She is involved in the Honors College, Gamers Guild, and New Student and Family Programs. Her favorite thing about EIU is the great and friendly community. Everyone here truly wants you to succeed!
Haley’s advice to new students is “Talk to your professors!”
Our next spotlight is Sergio Castro!
Sergio is a junior from Arlington Heights, IL majoring in Physical Education. He is involved on the Track team at EIU. His favorite thing about EIU is the little fun things like walking around town.
Sergio’s advice to new students is “Make friends by talking to new people everyday!”
One of our Program Specialist spotlights include Katryna Wilkes.
Katryna is a senior Political Science major from Belleville, IL. She is involved in National Residence Hall Honorary. Their favorite thing about EIU is being able to hang out with friends on the South Quad when the weather is nice.
Katryna’s advice to new students is “Try out new things! It might be a little scary, but new experiences help you learn about yourself!”
First up for our Orientation Leader Spotlight is Cori Hoekstra!
Cori is a senior Orientation Leader from Homewood, IL. She is majoring in Elementary and Special Education. On campus, she is involved with Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC), Friday Club, and Special Olympics. Her favorite thing about EIU is that there is so much to do and get involved in!
Cori’s advice to new students is “Get involved with RSOs! Utilize resources like the Writing Center and Tutoring Center.”
Our first spotlight goes to our summer intern, Krista Kingery!
Krista was the intern for New Student and Family Programs this summer! She joined us from Purdue University, where she is a Junior Public Relations and Strategic Communications major.
Krista's advice for incoming students is "Be open-minded and get involved!"
