Who is ready to join us -- and media partners 97.5 WQBE-FM and WCHS Eyewitness News -- at Live on the Levee, presented by Moses Auto Group?! This week we'll kick off the evening with Grace Campbell followed by headliner Matt Mullins & The Bringdowns. Don't forget to check out our fantastic food vendors on the Boulevard.

🎶 Matt Mullins & The Bringdowns are a Y’allternative Dad Rock Band from Beckley, WV. The stories in their songs are almost as diverse as the influences you hear in their music. While all members of the band have worked on other music projects previously, all agree that this group is the most honest music they have ever collectively created.

🎶Hailing from West Virginia, Grace Campbell brings her unique charm to the music scene. Her captivating songwriting and magnetic personality have garnered her a dedicated fan base both locally and on social media. Grace continues to grow her regional fanbase through live appearances, a strong social media presence, and the genuine connection she makes with her audience.

This Friday -- on the Schoenbaum Stage at Haddad Riverfront Park -- Joslyn & The Sweet Compression and special guests Brenna & The Boys will be joining us for Live on the Levee, presented by Moses Auto Group! Here's a peek at this week's artists. 🎶

🔶A rising force out of Lexington, Kentucky, the band led by Joslyn Hampton come out swinging on their sophomore album, ready to uplift and inspire through their singular and stirring soul-funk sound. 2019’s critically acclaimed debut album made them a favorite headliner at regional clubs and music festivals. After a grueling and relentless tour schedule – one that saw them supporting Tower of Power at New York’s Sony Hall and Tyler Childers at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre – the band is back with Bona Fide, a sonically and emotionally charged record that captures their breathtaking live energy as well as their humanity. Released August 25, 2023, Bona Fide is a resounding testament to Joslyn & The Sweet Compression’s unparalleled talents, as well as an homage to the band’s co-founder (and Joslyn Hampton’s step-father), Marty Charters, who passed away in 2022.

🔶Brenna is a Cosmic-Appalachian artist, creating space in between the seemingly, straight forward. Her sound combines influences from R&B, Rock, Folk and embodies her journey thus far. Hailing from the west coast, she is now rooted in the heart of Appalachia - West Virginia. She is lucky enough to be surrounded by immensely talented musicians, The Boys, who have turned her musical ideas into songs that are vulnerable & true to the heart.

We are excited to have Coach Kidd with Electric 102.7 and the folks at WSAZ NewsChannel 3 joining us this evening as we kick off live on the Levee with Corduroy Brown at 6:30P followed by tonight's headliner, The Local Honeys! While you're here, make sure to pop up to the Boulevard to check out our vendors! AND...make sure to stay hydrated this evening. It's a tad bit warm out here. 🥵

07/09/2024

Live on the Levee, presented by Moses Auto Group, returns this Friday on the Schoenbaum Stage at 6:30P with Corduroy Brown followed by headliner The Local Honeys! We have missed everyone, and cannot wait to see y'all on Friday!

But for now -- here's a bit about Friday's performers....

🎶Though many artists are defined by place, only a handful of artists come to define the places they’re from. The Local Honeys are Kentucky and Kentucky runs through their veins like an unbridled racehorse. When a master songsmith like Tom T Hall calls an artist “a great credit to a wonderful Kentucky tradition” it’s time to pull up a chair and pay attention. As it pertains to The Local Honeys he was right on the money. For almost a decade the duo (Montana Hobbs and Linda Jean Stokley) have been an integral part of the Kentucky musicscape. They’ve paid their dues, garnering countless accolades and accomplishments (tours with Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, praise from the New York Times) and have become the defining sound of real deal, honest-to-god Kentucky music.

🎶Corduroy Brown is a feel good, poppy, rock performer from Huntington, West Virginia. The Corduroy sound has been described as: “A sound that makes you feel like everything is going to be ok.” Corduroy has cultivated his own flavor of Appalachian Indie music with a focus on self worth and thought provoking lyrics. His debut album “Let Me Know” won Appalachian Album of the Year, which featured artists such as Arlo McKinley, Massing, and many more rising Appalachian artists.

We're not real sure what happened to our "preview post" for this week -- but it looks like it took a vacation without us OR it missed the memo that the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta is NEXT week! 🫣 One thing is for sure -- if you're not at the Levee tonight, you are missing out. I'm sure our media partners WSAZ NewsChannel 3 and 96.1 KWS will agree!

The Weekend Warriors are rocking out on the Schoenbaum Stage! If you want to know what the show is like--"It's basically a road trip, flipping through the radio stations with the wind in your hair. You don't know what's next but you are screaming right along with every word."

Josh Pantry Music is up next. Fun fact -- Josh played a total of 96 shows spanning over 7 states last year! He is a seasoned pro who has shared the stage with heavy hitters like, Chris Cagle, Love & Theft, Matt Stell, Jameson Rogers, David Morris, Jon Langston, David Nail, and Restless Road--just this year.

How about a as we get ready for this evening's performances by John Inghram presents: A Tribute to the Talking Heads and special guests The Kind Thieves!

Now [drumroll please 🥁] a bit about our performers...

John Inghram, the accomplished bassist, songwriter, and producer, has left an
undeniable musical imprint on his native Appalachia and beyond. Renowned for his virtuosity on the bass, Inghram's career has been punctuated by dynamic collaborations with a wide range of musical luminaries. From jazz with legends like mentor Bob Thompson, Larry Coryell, and Jane Monheit to country, rock, and jam artists such as Tim O’Brien, Sierra Ferrell, Fletcher’s Grove and Vince Herman, Inghram's bass lines have been the backbone of many unforgettable performances.

Hailing from the heart of Appalachia, The Kind Thieves pull influences from musical genres spanning from classic rock to funk to bluegrass--captivating listeners with their distinct writing styles and refined talent and promising an electrifying live music experience at every performance.

🎶Making friends through the music is part of what it’s all about for Levon -- a soulful trio, whose cross-generational sonic appeal draws from past and present, with a harmony-driven style built around compelling lyrics and memorable melodies: music with a timeless quality.

🎶Composing original material that audiences can sing along with and dance to, The Greens get the crowd into it and make the magic happen--playing the Blues and Rock and Soul and Funk and a little Country, and then mix it all together in a new unique way!

Good morning Live on the Levee Fans! It might be 🌧 in this morning, but tomorrow we're gonna see some 🌤 and two fantastic bands -- Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears with special guests The Spurgie Hankins Band. Check out snippets from their bio's below!

Black Joe Lewis and his band, the Honeybears, popped onto the national stage over a decade ago. Through the years, Joe’s honed his mastery over gut bucket blues guitar and his true voice -- a vital and distinctly American voice. The garage, the blues, the propulsive and synergistic live performances that inhabit the spaces of James Brown, Lightnin’ Hopkins, and the MC5...could only be accurately communicated in the live experience. Black Joe Lewis has shared countless bills with Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Cedric Burnside and Lightnin Malcolm, The Dirtbombs, Detroit Cobras, and the Strange Boys -- some of the most influential soul and garage bands of the last twenty five years.

The Spurgie Hankins Band formed almost 25 years ago as an outlet for Spurgie's original songs. His music is a rich melting pot of styles, seasoned with his five decades of musical experience. The band is comprised of Spurgie Hankins (guitar and vocals), Eric Dye (guitar and vocals), Kevin Kidd (bass) and T.J. King (drums and vocals).

Anyone else dreaming of live music on this Monday -- or is it just us? 😉
