My last post! I love you, Chandler Academy staff, parents, and students. I’ll always believe in you and our program! I’ll always stand by your side and cheer for you even when others gave up on you. I can’t thank everyone enough for your love, support, hard work, and kind words over the last 10 years. It was a team effort. ❤️
God blessed me. I believe God sent me there. I don’t understand all this but maybe one day God will show me why I had to leave. My heart breaks for our staff, families, and students. God has a plan. I have to trust him. You can take me out of Chandler but you can’t take Chandler out of me! Chandler strong! Chandler proud! Always Chandler! Always my Chandler family! Wishing everyone a wonderful summer and a blessed new school year. Love you! ❤️ From the Desk of Tammy J. Dennis Burgess
This is the last week, as of now, I’ll be working with some of our Chandler Academy staff after 10 years. 😓 A new journey begins for all of us. Some of us have no idea where our journey even begins. Wishing you the best next school year.❤️ I will miss my Chandler Family. 😓 Love you! ❤️ This page will be deactivated by the end of my Chandler Academy contract which is June 30th. Chandler Academy will remain open with less staff.
Last week of school for students and staff. Enjoy it. ❤️

UPDATE: *KCS NTID Day Friday, April 12*
Due to flooding across the county, KCS will observe a Non-Traditional Instructional Day (NTID) today, Friday, April 12th. Students should follow guidance sent home by their school in the last several weeks. If students have not received guidance, please still log into Schoology today for assignments and lessons.
Our school-based staff and 200-day employees are to work from home. Custodians should report if they are able. School-based staff working from home should contact their supervisor with any challenges working remotely.
KCS will be on a 2-hour delay tomorrow, April 12 due to flooding. Bus pick up and school start times will be 2 hrs later than normal.
This is a message from Kanawha County Schools. Kanawha County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, April 5th due to continued power outages affecting students, staff, and schools, necessary building repairs, and continued food deliveries to restock food lost due to outages.
Live updates: Power outages, weather forecast and cleanup of Tuesday's storms Get the latest updates on the cleanup following severe storms on April 2, 2024. We'll have information about Appalachian Power company outages, storm cleanup and the weather forecast.
This is a message from Kanawha County Schools. Kanawha County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, April 4th due to continued power outages and damage related to Tuesday’s severe weather. Twenty-three of our schools still have no power, many have debris that still needs to be removed for campus safety, and many more of our schools have lost food. District employees and partners will continue to work to address all of these challenges tomorrow.
Tomorrow will be treated as a snow day. Students do not need to complete remote work.
All school-based and non-261-day employees should stay at home unless contacted by a supervisor for an essential duty. Please note that there will be many essential duties given our unique challenges. All non-school-based 261-day employees should report on time as long as their building has power. 261-day custodians need to report.
Additional school event/athletic updates may be made by individual schools.
I’m keeping all Kanawha County staff, students, and communities in my thoughts and prayers. I can’t imagine what they may had to face when they left their schools and arrived to their homes yesterday. ❤️

On the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024, it is anticipated that between 1:58 p.m. to 4:29 p.m. our region will experience a partial solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves between the sun and earth, blocking all or a portion of the sun’s rays.
Medical professionals advise it is always dangerous to look directly at the sun without appropriate eye protection. Out of an abundance of caution, Kanawha County Schools (KCS) is taking extra steps for your child’s safety. Please see the attached information. Thank you!
