Fred Chandler, Business Manager for Charleston Building and Construction Trades Council, and Luther Lasure, Executive Director of the Kanawha Valley Builders Association (right), presented our CEO Chris Rawlings with a check for $8,500 today from their recent KVBA Labor-Management Golf Scramble. The annual golf event celebrated 30 years this year, and HospiceCare has been the recipient of the event’s fundraising efforts for 22 of those years! We are incredibly grateful for the WV State Building Trades’ continued generous support, which has totaled $114,500 since 2002.

Last night, lawmakers passed a freeze to unemployment with NO CUTS to benefits.

The law will freeze the maximum weekly benefit at $662 and the tax on employers at the first $9500 of each employee’s wages.

HB5435 the Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Nontraditional Degree (STAND) Program passed the Senate and now heads to the Governor’s desk to become law.

The program will cover the tuition costs for apprentices and journeyworkers in the trades to receive associate degrees from local community and technical colleges.
