Grading is one of the most important aspects of site design – and every site is different. With so many different factors to consider like earthwork, drainage, resources, environmental impact, and the foundation (just to name a few), experience is crucial. Burton specializes in designing customized grading & drainage plans for projects and has been doing so for nearly 30 years.

Big things are happening at BEA! We’re currently undergoing an office renovation with the help of Darren Tuitt and his company, J.B. Stones Development Services. Darren has been doing a stellar job managing our project from demo, to paint, to new flooring. Major thanks to our lovely office manager, Lisa, who is working diligently with Darren to ensure every detail is perfectly in place and things are as seamless as possible. Great job, team! Rolling into 2021 with an early morning tilt-up concrete pour for repeat client, Crate and Barrel's expansion in Newton, NC. With over 540,000 cubic yards of cut/fill operations, the 68-acre site paves way for construction of the 736,000-SF distribution warehouse.

According to folklore, General Cornwallis came to Charlotte in 1780 during the Revolutionary War to defeat the Continental Army, but Charlotte Patriots were surprisingly too combative for him. He later referred to Charlotte’s resistance of the British crown as “A Hornet’s Nest of Rebellion”, which led to Charlotte being called the ‘Hornet’s Nest’ today.

Civil infrastructure not only provides us convenience and safety but is also vital for socioeconomic growth and development. Telecommunications, transportation systems, and water supply have been cultivated over time to ensure sustainable living and an overall better quality of life. Roadway improvements such as turn lanes, roundabouts, and sidewalks are designed to enhance intersections, improve traffic flow, and reinforce pedestrian safety. Poorly designed systems can impact a community for many years. Our decades of experience have given us the resources and knowledge necessary to create quality, long lasting infrastructure. Site development for this residential complex in University City is progressing nicely! We partnered with Samet Corporation to perform the construction survey for the 5 new multi-story apartment buildings that are being constructed near UNCC.

Zipline International and Novant Health partnered to create America’s first FAA approved drone delivery operation by a hospital. As a result, Zipline has been distributing personal protective equipment to frontline medical teams at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center. Burton’s project manager, Matt Graham, recently visited the Kannapolis temporary launch site to ensure the facility was built according to design standards while fulfilling client expectations. We’re so proud to have partnered with Zipline and to be part of this innovative logistics approach to support the health and safety of our Charlotte metro community!

Amazon’s new fulfillment center in west Charlotte is officially open! This massive facility took just over a year to complete and will create well over 1,000 jobs. We partnered with Foundry Commercial and Edifice on CLT9 to first design the site as a speculative building space and then re-engineer the site to meet the needs of the fulfillment center.
