A recent discussion with a client: My only Retirement Gap is insuring against Long Term Care (also known as the Healthcare Risk). What are my options?

Me:
Self Fund - Pay for everything with cash or assets as it happens.

Government - Spend down or transfer my assets out of my name and become a ward of the state and let them take care of me.

Stand Alone Long Term Care plan - Pays for expenses - but if you do not use it - you lose it. Can be expensive.

LTC Annuity - Pays you a regular stream of income like an annuity but income payment can double if you need LTC.

Hybrid Life Insurance Plan w LTC Rider - could be a good option as its there if you need it - or goes to your loved ones if not used since it is on a Life Insurance Chasis. Also it allows you to stay in home and have a family member take care of you and they get paid.

Why should my company offer employee benefits? It’s a great way to recruit, retain, and reward top talent.

What are they? Supplemental benefits, such as life insurance, accident, short term disability, and critical illness. 

How much do they cost and who pays for them? Typically the employee pays, although the employer has the option to contribute if they would like. Benefits are deducted from payroll automatically.

What if I take out benefits and then leave the company? The majority of our benefits are portable, which means they go with you if you leave the company.

How many people do I have to have in my company? 3 to 5
