Important Phrases to Practice Saying:
The most important thing you can do to prepare for a birth you feel AMAZING about is to get OKAY with using your voice!
It may feel awkward at first, but practicing these phrases before you give birth can help you communicate with your team more effectively AND help you have the birth of your dreams!
And if (when?) you forget what to say, don't worry- your doula's job is to help you find your voice, advocate for your birth, and make sure you're feeling in control no matter what happens.

‘Nipple confusion’, ‘ni**le preference’ or ‘flow preference’ are often used to describe a change in a baby’s sucking pattern or their willingness to breastfeed following the introduction of a bottle or dummy. A baby may have difficulty latching or staying on the breast, be fussy or reluctant to breastfeed, or be unable to remove milk effectively. Our article has information that may help overcome problems.

Is a doula just a fad or a growing trend?
While the term doula has only been used in English-speaking countries since the 1970s, people have always supported new families through pregnancy and into the postpartum period. In the 1970s, doulas mostly trained through an apprenticeship model, with formal training programs being introduced in the late 1980s. Back in the 1990s, there were just three training organizations worldwide. There are now hundreds of training organizations offering training in different formats. Doulas are now more widely recognized by the general public and medical care providers.
Extensive research has now been carried out consistently showing a doula’s benefits. Health departments recognize how much a doula’s presence influences positive outcomes, and insurance companies often cover the cost of a doula in their healthcare plans. We believe the number of doulas and doula training options will continue to grow, especially while birth is medicalized and more people are giving birth far away from their families. Clients wanting an empowering birth where they are active participants and decision-makers are increasingly looking to doula support to help them achieve that.

Alternative Options for Pain Management
Laboring your way through?
Here are some holistic pain management options to consider.
• Breathing Techniques: Take slow, deep breaths to help manage contractions and keep your mind focused. Inhale strength, exhale tension.
• Massage & Counterpressure: A gentle touch from a partner or doula can work wonders. Try back rubs, hip squeezes, or pressure on your lower back.
• Position Changes: Move around! Different positions can ease discomfort and help baby navigate the
birth canal.
• Warm Compresses: A warm, soothing compress on your lower back or abdomen can offer relief and relaxation.
• Visualizations & Affirmations: Channel your inner strength by visualizing a calm place or using positive affirmations to stay centered
• Water Therapy. Warm baths or showers can help relax your muscles and provide a comforting environment.
Remember, it's about finding what resonates with you and making your labor journey uniquely yours.

Choosing your birth location
🌟💕🤱🌈🌸💫
One of the most empowering decisions you'll make is where to give birth. Whether it's the cozy embrace of home, the nurturing environment of a birth center, or the advanced medical care of a hospital – your choice should reflect your comfort, needs, and desires.
Home births offer intimacy and familiarity, surrounded by your own space and energy.
Birth centers provide a gentle atmosphere with skilled support.
Hospitals offer medical resources for high-risk situations.
Your birthing place is as unique as you are! It's important to explore your options, gather information, and have open conversations with your care team. Consider factors like your health, birth philosophy, and support network. Trust your instincts, and know that no matter where you choose, your birthing experience is a remarkable journey that you're creating with love.

Tips for birth planning
Birth planning is a beautiful way to envision your journey and communicate your preferences. The process of creating your birth plan is about discovering what feels right for you. Each choice you make reflects your values, preferences, and hopes. Embrace this time as an opportunity to connect with yourself, your partner, and your baby on a profound level. ✨💫
Lengthening your muscles is important for good fetal positioning and labor progress. The ligaments, joints, and fascia (the dynamic web supporting our muscles, organs, and bones) function better in balance and symmetry. Body balance provides unity between your body and baby’s positioning.
Prenatal yoga, massage, and chiropractic work are helpful tools to help your muscles, joints, and ligaments prepare for birth. And they are wonderful for after birth as well!
Kind words from a beautifully family….🫶
Where do I even begin with how amazing my experience was with Victoria? 🌟 From the very start, she was not only informative but incredibly supportive. Every question, concern, or fear I had was met with a wealth of knowledge and understanding. She was available whenever I had a question throughout not only my birth but throughout my entire pregnancy! It made me feel so much safer and more comfortable as a first time mom!
One thing that truly stood out for me was how fiercely she advocated for my needs. When my doctor wasn't providing the care I truly needed, she stepped up, ensuring I was heard and respected. Her tenacity combined with her genuine concern for my well-being was a breath of fresh air.
She also came to our house pre-birth, dedicating her time to help me learn breathing exercises and familiarize myself with birth positions and the medical terminology and devices I'll see during my labour. Each session was packed with so much value and personal attention.
Above all, her demeanor was the perfect blend of strength and nurture. I felt like I was in the hands of a protective older sister, someone who'd move mountains to ensure I had the best birthing experience.
If you're searching for a doula who genuinely cares, is incredibly knowledgeable, and will stand by your side no matter what, look no further! She's an absolute gem, and I cannot recommend her enough! 💖🙌👶🌼

What's in the placenta that can contribute to the experienced benefits of placenta encapsulation?
There are many substances in the placenta that are in an orally active form, but the biggest one is estrogen. Estrogen is a hormone with anti-inflammatory properties that stimulates healing and assists in the mobilization of white blood cells to fight off infection. It's known for exerting those anti-inflammatory effects in the central nervous system, which affects several aspects of mental function. Estrogen is also a determining hormone to a person's mental health. When estrogen levels stay below the recommended levels, it can cause clinical depression and lack of mental clarity. This increase in estrogen may be why one of the biggest reported benefits of consuming the placenta is feeling more upbeat and having better mental clarity.
This blog is for the birth partners! ✨
"Why would you want a doula?"
"What will my role be at the birth if we hire a doula?"
"Will she take my place?"
Over the years as a birth doula these are the questions and concerns that I have heard time and time again from partners.
There is a fear that by hiring a doula the partner will not have a place at the birth, and I want to assure you that having a doula does not mean that your partner doesn't want you there or that your partner wants to replace you. A birth doula is support for both of you!!! Yes, the expectant mother is our priority, but you are just as important in this process. In many ways you will be even more important to her then we (as doulas) ever will be.
Throughout her labor she may use the doula as a guide, but you will be the one she is looking to for the love you can give her. That is something a doula can never give, because although we may like you we will never have that special bond of being in a committed relationship with you that your partnership has.
So what will a doula do?
How will she work with you as a couple?
The doula is there to act as your guide helping you to navigate this uncharted journey. She can provide you with physical, emotional, and informational support.
Throughout the pregnancy she can be that one constant person who will give you her non-judgmental support. If you have questions or concerns or just need to talk she is there for both of you. She can provide you the additional education that you both may need as well, or if she doesn't have the information she can help you figure out how to get it. During your labor and birth she can offer you suggestions to help with discomfort such as providing comforting touch (aka massage), suggest trying different positions, or perhaps even getting into the tub or shower. She can give suggestions for enhancing labor like suggesting the laboring mom walk, move, squat, use a birth ball, and so much more.
So what does the partner do while the doula is doing all of this? That is simple...the partner continues to provide love and support and if he/she wants to do any of the above they simply tell the doula and she steps back, or perhaps the role/job is shared. The doula is there to compliment the experience and to never take away from it.
As a birth doula there have been some births that I have attended where the birth partner is so educated and so dedicated that my role is to offer suggestions, fill in the gaps, and provide breaks to the partner.
Other births it is really a partnership....almost like a dance between me and the partner. Surrounding the mother with support and encouragement.
When one person steps back the other steps forward without anyone ever saying a word. Then there are the births where the support person really struggles with the entire process or perhaps is there to be a part of the event, but doesn't want to do the hands on stuff. He/she may have a hard time participating for one reason or another (we are not there to judge). It could be their fear, a past experience, seeing bodily fluids or perhaps not liking seeing their partner in pain. In those cases we involve the partner as much as he/she is comfortable and if it is too much then we step up and fill that role completely - giving the partner the space that he/she needs.
It is very important to remember that the doula cannot provide the most important component that a birth partner will provide and that is being in LOVE. She needs to know her partner is there to support her, encourage her and provide that love that no one else in the room can give. The partner also brings with him/her the knowledge of who the mother is, what she likes, dislikes, her wishes and dreams, and so much more. All things a doula can never provide.
The biggest key to having a good relationship with the birth doula as both the mother and the partner is to have realistic expectations and open communication. As a couple before hiring a doula dig deep and really explore what and how you see the roles. Does what the mother expects from her partner match what the partner can give? Are both of you confident in what is expected and what can be given? Then comes the communication part....communicating with each other and your doula is essential. If at anytime your doula is or isn't doing something that you desire let her know that. If she is doing something that the partner wants to do then tell her. You will not offend her!!! If she is suggesting you do something that you are not comfortable with then tell her. You will not offend her!!! If you need time alone as a couple then tell her. You will not offend her!!! If you tell her in the moment she can adjust what she is doing to help you have the most satisfying birth possible.
As a doula and as a mother who has used a doula before one of the best parts of being and having a doula is seeing how much more confident the partner becomes because there is a doula present. A doula can provide that comforting and calming presence, so if something is unfamiliar she can help the partner and mother understand what is happening and why. If something is unclear she can help make it more clear or get someone into the room who can provide the information that is sought.
It is important to remember to nurture your relationship, have both of you be supported in this journey, and come out of it stronger and more connected then you ever thought you could be.
