I’m still running behind , but I wanted to illustrated the prompt for “fearless” to celebrate the students that spoke up against the book ban in York, PA (see yesterday’s post), and to celebrate all of the young people that are fighting for inclusion, representation, and truth.
ID: illustration of brown-skinned you g person with natural hair sitting cross legged. They are wearing a black t-shirt, light blue jeans, and white sneakers with a red sole. They are hugging a yellow book, and beside them are 2 stacks of books, one on each side. The stack on the left has the words, “our voices matter” and “diverse books matter” written on some of the books. The stack on the right has “books unite us” and “don’t ban books” written on some of the books.

Posted • Slow is faster than stuck🐌🥲🐛
Whether it’s work related deadlines or personal progress, this is a good one to remember☝️I’ve noticed how much I’ve truly slowed down since last year, and tbh I don’t like it?🙈 & I think it’s because slow feels “stuck” to me. But it’s probably just time to embrace the slow🌸 (or at least try to be ok with it little by little)
Saw this thought via the other day, & instantly bookmarked his post bc his thoughts truly resonated with me✨
Happy Sunday, Diaspora Readers! If you’re (ever) in the Charlotte metro area looking for (yet another!!!) Black woman-owned bookstore to support, we highly recommend ! Sonya opened up this space last weekend and V finally got to check it out yesterday. The artwork done by is intricate and beautiful and the space is just as warm and inviting as its owner!
Saturdays are for cleaning.
Yes, KG at the laundromat giving all her quarters away.
KG recently finished “We Will Not Cancel Us” by , part of the Emergent Strategy Series. brown complicates the idea of cancel culture for her, expanding her understanding of cancel culture’s impacts, uses and limitations. We have had conversations about our decision-making (which Diaspora books to feature, Diaspora authors to avoid in some instances) and the role cancel culture or call-outs play in those decisions. As brown asks “how well does this serve us?”
Diaspora readers, do you have a book that has challenged your definition of a concept or view of something happening in the moment? Let us know below.
Happy Tuesday, Diaspora Readers!
New title or old fave? Which book(s) are you adding to your shelves this week? Any coming from an indie press or publisher?
Y’all.
KG here, trying to share more of my TBR and current reads, but y’all I read an excerpt of this here book— Chapter 11 😫😞😩— and then rushed to my Libro.fm Audiobooks] app to get a copy, forgetting I need to purchase online 😩, and…y’all. Whew.
Is anyone reading this book or has anyone already read this book? Comment your reactions below.
That chapter (11) alone took me through so many emotions and recollections of my own childhood. ’s memoir is emotionally raw, emotionally honest, and gets at the complexity of familial relationships, perceptions of parents and love that I haven’t encountered recently.
Don’t be like me and run out of Libro.fm Audiobooks] credits. I’m getting a physical copy very soon.
Also, Happy Monday!

Diaspora Readers, we're sad to learn of writer and illustrator Floyd Cooper's passing yesterday at the age of 64. While renowned for his illustrations, Cooper saw his talent for writing as an extension of his visual art. He both wrote and illustrated works such as JUNETEENTH FOR MAZIE, MAX AND THE TAG-ALONG MOON, COMING HOME, and THE RING-BEARER, just to name a few. What Floyd Cooper title is your favorite?
