That's Novel Books
We’re just some folks who love books, and we’re bringing a used bookstore to the Queen City because of it. We are located at Camp North End
We do take used books for store credit, and offer places to hang and work.
We absolutely adore this video captured by Loyd Visuals! Thank you so much for sharing our story and capturing our essence/personality so perfectly.
There is much to do at Camp North End, and Alyssa Pressler’s That’s Novel Bookstore is definitely a place worth exploring. Follow the yellow-tiled floor to the bookshelves adorned with plants. If you’re not sure what sparks your interest, Pressler will help you find what you are looking for.
It’s Banned Books Week, so here are 25 Charlotte-area indie bookstores to support These Charlotte area shops provide the chance to cozy up on a couch, sip a coffee or even pet a dog while you browse and read.
📚 happening this week 📚
📖 9/25: SJM Book Trivia at ! We are so excited for this and we know yall are, too. Two important reminders: if your team cannot make it (or if you have a few members who can’t make it) PLEASE reach out to us so we can pull from the waitlist. Additionally, please arrive early on Wednesday for the event so you can get your orders in before we start at 7. We don’t want all of the food and drinks to overwhelm the staff at Room Service, and arriving early will help with this! If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
📖 9/26: Writing Club from 5:30-7. Seats are sold out - don’t forget to cancel your seat if you can’t make it so someone else can have your spot!
Other than these two events we will be open normal hours and releasing our October events schedule this week. Send us questions, come see us, and buy some banned books this week!
What I read in the absolute insane month that was August is up on the blog! Even with everything I had going on personally I managed to read 7 books last month, a few of which absolutely blew me away 👏🏼 head our website to check it out: https://www.thatsnovelbooks.com/blog/blog-august-2024-reads
Join us next Saturday, 9/21, for a book signing with ! Karen will be signing and selling copies of her book Moxie Matters, a memoir that touches on her life as a moxie-filled little girl and the diminishing effects her mother’s secret battle with cancer had on it during high school.
Karen will be set up in our shop from 12-3. Come grab a book, meet the author and support your local writing scene!
Hey friends 👋🏼 we’ve got a long post with a few updates on upcoming events, so buckle up.
First, Novels & Needles meets tonight from 6-7 p.m.! Bring your current fiber arts project and come work on it with others. This is super casual - just show up and hang with us!
Second, we have writing club tomorrow! Tomorrow’s session is sold out, but you can reserve your spot at our next one on September 26. Head to the events page on our website and you’ll see the link to register. This is also your reminder that we have limited seats for writing club. If you cannot make it, please cancel your seat so someone else can join!
Finally, let’s talk book trivia at later this month! We know there are a lot of y’all who are desperate to get in for this one. The fact is we are truly out of seats and space. We are not trying to gate keep this event from you, and we definitely wish we could accommodate the 200+ of y’all who want to attend. We WILL be doing this again in the very near future and splitting it into the different series, so even if you miss this one, there will be more chances in the future! If you’d like to be placed on the waitlist for this month, send us a message with your team name, number of players and a contact. If you are signed up and you can no longer participate or if you have less team members participating than originally expected, please reach out to us to let us know so we can try to accommodate others who want to come!
I’ll be putting up a question box in our stories today so you can throw questions there, or feel free to send a message! It’s to cool to see so many people excited about books and writing and crafts. We love y’all 💛
It’s National Buy A Book Day (a day we celebrate far more often than it appears on the calendar 😅). Here’s your reminder that you can shop our new selection of books online! Swipe through to see a few of the new ones we added today, including a preorder option for TJ Klune’s new book, Beyond The Sea, out this Tuesday.
This is also your reminder that we can special order books for you! If you’re looking for a book and we don’t have it, just ask and we can look to see if we can order it in for you (and you only pay when you pick it up).
Regardless of where you buy your books today or any day, we encourage you to shop with an Indie Bookstore. When you shop locally and indie, you’re not only buying a book; you’re investing in free events, personalized book recommendations, an in person shopping experience and the local community at large. Shop small, shop local, but mostly, buy the damn book 😉
Grateful doesn’t cover it. Looking out and seeing a record breaking 161 of y’all at last night’s Silent Book Club was the coolest thing in the world. It means the world that each month so many of you come to read with others outside of our shop at . Thank you, thank you, thank you, Charlotte book worms 💛
The next one is Oct. 3 - mark your calendars and keep those fingers crossed that we get gorgeous weather again!
Happy book lovers day, book friends!
Curating our section of new books has been so much fun, but used books will always have our heart. There’s something magical about reading a story someone’s loved before, seeing the pages they dog eared or the notes they took. Plus, you can’t beat the prices 😉
Here are some of the used books hitting our shelves today! Come celebrate with us and get yourself a new read. Weekend hours:
Friday: 12-8
Saturday: 11-7
Sunday: 11-5
See ya soon 😘
CLOSED Thursday, 8/8!
Tried to drive in this morning and yuck, y’all. This weather is nasty and if I don’t feel comfortable driving in it, I definitely don’t want you all risking it. We’re going to close for the day for everyone’s safety. This means writing club is POSTPONED. We will reschedule to next week. I will get the eventbrite info updated later today. Apologies to everyone who signed up, but today is a “write from the comfort of your bed” day.
We’ll be back open regular hours tomorrow, and don’t forget you can support all the time by shopping online. Stay safe, y’all!
Don’t let Debbie get you down 🌧️ come grab a new book for your rainy days this week. Might we recommend the new Casey McQuiston novel, The Pairing? It follows childhood best friends turned lovers turned estranged exes as they are thrown together once more on a European tour. They decide on a friendly hookup competition to prove nothing is left between them… or is it?
We’ve got copies in the shop or you can order online for local pick up or to be shipped to you! Come and get it 📚
Taco has graced the store with his presence today! He’s allowing 5 pets for each book purchased. (He’s actually allowing 5 pets no matter what. In fact, more than 5 would be great. Unlimited pets is actually the goal. Please don’t ever stop petting him.)
We’re open 11-5 today and would love to see your faces! (Especially taco.)
(This caption was written by taco.)
It’s a good weekend to buy books 📚
