🕸🕷🎃 Howl'oween Pet Vaccines are coming!! Mark your calendars! 🐈⬛🦇👻
When dog rescuing runs through your veins, you are always ready to do what you can to help - even on vacation! Did I see an “adopt me” bandana from afar? Yes I did. Did I watch to see how that adoptable dog acted as she was walked toward me? Absolutely. Did I creep in her path to get a chance to interact with her myself and ask her handlers all the questions? Sure did!
This is Meg. Isn’t she beautiful? Meg has been living at the Grand Strand Humane Society for around 4 months. Some really sweet volunteers decided to bring her for a walk on the beach this weekend and I am so glad they did! I am told she was used as a breeding dog. She had heartworms but has finished treatment. Her dark eyes tell a story or survival but also hope. It looks like someone took a pair of kitchen scissors to her ears. I hope karma finds them and treats them terribly. Her teeth are yellowed, her right eye has drainage, her fur is dull, and her skin needs some work. Nothing a trip to the vet, a good diet, a few baths and a little love won’t fix. Meg is estimated to be 3-4 years old. She has no reason to even like people but it is clear she loves them. All of them. Big ones, small ones, young and old. I watched her stop and get love from whomever would pay attention to her. She was in heaven! She was the sweetest friendliest girl. She walked great on a leash. Her profile says that she doesn’t like other dogs (who can blame her). It also says they would be willing to assist with meet and greets. I can say that watching her on the beach, she did not seem reactive to the other dogs that were around. She wasn’t even interested in them. I’m willing to bet that she would be fine with proper introductions and dogs that don’t have interest in being in her personal space.
If you are looking for a loving girl dog with a big, heart shaped head, please consider Meg. This girl deserves a home and family that will treat her right and take her for long walks on the beach ❤️🐾❤️

Officially introducing Otter (fna Jake)! We pulled this beefy guy from CMPD Animal Care & Control last week and he is settling into his foster home nicely. Otter was adopted from the shelter back in June only to be returned a few months later for ridiculous reasons that can only be blamed on the owners for not taking the time to train him. Otter is thought to be around 2 years old. So far we know he is a sweet and loving guy, takes treats gently, is eager to please and is kid approved. Stay tuned for more Otter updates as we get to know more about him.
As a non-profit organization, we cannot save dogs like Otter without your donations. Please consider donating so that we can continue to help deserving dogs find their happily ever afters ❤️🐾❤️
Hazel wanted to show off her popcorn catching skills in hopes that someone out there is in search of their own popcorn catcher! Hate missing scenes of the movie because you are searching for those dropped pieces in the couch? Hazel will find them and clean up the mess for you! This is only one of the many reasons that Hazel makes the perfect teammate. If you are interested in adopting Hazel, request an application by emailing [email protected].
Just a little Hazel wondering why nobody wants to adopt her 😢. Help us by sharing Hazel’s posts. She is the sweetest girl and would make such a great companion. She is crate trained, house trained, walks well on a leash, does great on car rides, is fine with cats, likes kids and gets along with other low key dogs. She loves to play with balls and snuggling under the covers of a big comfy bed
Hey there! I’m Hazel and I am looking for a home to call my own. My foster pawrents say I’m the goodest girl and I’m going to make a great family member. I am around 8 years young and weigh about 30lbs. We think one of my parents was a hotdog but I’m built more like a sausage. I’m may be short but I’m a tank 😜 I’m really smart. I know that the potty is outside, I walk nicely on a leash and if you tell me “crate”, that’s where I go! Some things that I love the most are balls, cuddles, basketballs, belly rubs, soccer balls, treats, baseballs, sleeping under the covers, squeaky balls, car rides and did I mention balls? Balls are life!!! I get along fine with the cat that lives in my foster home and the kids that I have been around are pretty cool. I found out that if I sit under them when they eat, that means snack time for me! Speaking of eating, I really don’t like to share my food so my fosters want you to know I will need to be fed separately from other dogs that live in your house. It’s fine. I just go in my crate, gobble mine down and wait patiently until everyone is done. No biggie! I do like other dogs but only the kind that don’t get right in my face. I can be a bit bossy with smaller dogs but I know better than to mess with the big ones! The rescue says that I would be great as an only dog or in a home that has bigger, calmer pups that don’t play too rough. I really am the sweetest girl who just loves her hoomans. And balls of course! If you think we would make a good team, reach out to my people. They will be happy to get a meeting on my calendar. [email protected]

As a reminder, please make sure that your pets are current on rabies vaccinations.
We are saddened to report that our shelter is at maximum capacity, and we urgently need the community's help. Over the past week, we have seen a significant influx of dogs, and unfortunately, we now face the heartbreaking necessity of making euthanasia decisions.
If you can open your heart and home, even temporarily, please consider fostering, adopting, or taking a dog for a staycation. Every act of kindness can make a life-saving difference. Please visit us at our main or satellite locations today. Together, we can ensure that every animal receives the care and attention they deserve. Thank you for your continued support.

🌈not the update I hoped to provide. Tonight we had to make the hardest decision to say goodbye to Roku. All testing pointed to an infection in his body that was possibly either Parvo that hadn’t shown up on the test or, more likely, a bowel perforation due to either a foreign body obstruction or intussusception. The prognosis for both possibilities was very poor and made worse by his existing state. Thank you for all of your support and donations to Roku’s care. Though it was not a happy ending, Roku was not alone, was kept comfortable and had lots of love around him. Our total bill for today was $1623.85. I have provided screenshots in the comments. Every little bit helps🌈
Ok friends. You know we try not to ask for help unless we truly need it and it’s been a while since we had to really ask for donations. Today we are asking for your help.
This is Roku. I received a call from his owners late this afternoon stating that they were given my number and told we may be able to help. I was told that 5 month old Roku and his mother had escaped last week and been on the run for a few days. He seemed fine when they got him back but around 5 days ago he stopped eating and drinking and had vomiting and diarrhea. He had since lost enough weight that his bones were showing and that he had become so weak and lethargic that he could no longer walk.
We are currently hanging with our friends at Veterinary Emergency Group trying to figure out what is wrong with poor Roku. His Parvo test has come back negative but he is not doing very well. The current plan is to do lab work and X-rays to check for an infection/Sepsis or an obstruction. We have already put in over $1000 and are not sure what is wrong. We hope you will consider donating to Roku’s care so that we can continue to help our neighbors and other dogs that need us ❤️🐾❤️
