It was Apple Picking Week for our social skills groups and this week we read âApple Picking Dayâ by Candice Ransom.
The learners loved exploring this theme through various activities, with washing apples using brushes and soap being the groupâs favorite themed activity! The fun continued into the gym with glow in the dark ball play! It was another week of fun, friendship, laughter, and learning.
The progress observed this week was tremendous, and we are so proud of our social skill learners and staff!
Week 6 of our social skills groups is complete! â¤ď¸
This week we talked about all of our hometown heroes, using the book âHello! Hometown Heroesâ by Tori Armier. Our learners had an amazing time learning about all of the hometown heroes there are and how they make our world a better place and what they do! To make it even more exciting, our learners got to go into the surprise box and in it there were construction worker costumes with play tools. We had so much fun with our pretend play this week especially making a mess as you can see from our hammering center, dancing to songs about hometown heros, and playing with the parachute with one another.
We are so excited to see our learners growing friendships with one another and taking turns. Stay tuned in for what we have planned for next week!
This weekâs â¨STAFF HIGHLIGHT⨠is: Tanajzha from the Pineville center!!
Week 5 of our social skills groups flew by!
We dove into the topic of bus safety, using the book "A Bus for Us" by Suzanna Bloom as our guide. Our learners had a blast practicing bus etiquette, learning about safety rules, and even pretending to ride a bus with imaginary seats and destinations. To make it even more fun, we danced to silly songs and played games related to bus travel. We're so impressed with our learners' progress and their enthusiasm for learning new social skills and building relationships with their friends!
Weâre rocking and rolling with our groups, and happy to have you along for the ride!
Thatâs a wrap on our fourth week of our Social Skills Groups! âĽď¸
This weekâs theme was all about riding the bus to school, and just how much fun it can be! We read âThe Little School Busâ by Carol Roth. Learners had a blast dancing to bus themed songs like âWheels on the Bus,â and playing games like Pete the Catâs Wheels on the Bus game. And as always, the surprise box was a huge hit!
Growth, connection, and a whole lot of fun. Keep following along to see how our learners and staff are building friendships and unlocking potential!

This week was the third week of our Social Skills Group here at ABtA! âĽď¸
The week's theme was all about how much fun the first day of school will be with all of the activities you will do, plus the emotions to expect and how to work through them! The book this week was "Llama Llama Misses Mama" by Anna Dewdney. One of the learners' favorite activities was being able to play pin the tail on the llama! It was incredible to see the learners having so much fun working together to get the tail on the right spot and being silly while doing so! We also worked on communication skills by asking for dance songs with this week's favorite song being Hickory Dickory Dock. During the song, each learner got a chance to go in the surprise box to get their own clocks and move the hands on the clocks along with the song.
We had such an amazing week and stay tuned in for what we have planned for the upcoming weeks!
Happy đ Todayâs terms are the 4 Functions of Behavior.
Last week was our second week of our Social Skills Groups here at ABtA! â¤ď¸
This weekâs theme was all about getting ready for the first day of school and what to expect in a fun and silly way. We read the book âIf You Take a Mouse to Schoolâ by Laura Numeroff. One of the learnersâ favorite activities was getting a little messy with a shaving cream experiment, like how the mouse did in the book!
We also worked on sharing and working together by building the tallest tower with cups! Learners also got the chance to work on communication skills by requesting dance songs and sing along songs. A group favorite is the Freeze Dance song!
We had such an amazing week and canât wait for what we have planned for the upcoming weeks
This weekâsâ¨STAFF HIGHLIGHTâ¨is: Leah from the University center!!
Happy đ Todayâs terms are Assent and Assent Withdrawal.
We launched our Social Skills programs this week! â¤ď¸
Our week one theme is all about best friends! We read âHow to Spot a Best Friendâ and discussed what friends would do versus not do. One of the favorite activities is the surprise box! Learners chant along with staff while waiting to see whatâs revealed. This week itâs musical instruments for the learners to explore while singing âWill you be a friend of mineâ? Learners also participated in center activities to work on targeting specific social skill goals identified by a BCBA, including playing with the parachute and following group instructions during parachute play. Learners had the opportunity to explore various toys and work on building their social motivation and play skills in both the classroom and gym.
We had a BLAST in week one. Stay tuned for what we have in store next week!
