Our community is mourning the loss of two extraordinary legends, James Earl Jones and Frankie Beverly, who passed away just a day apart.

James Earl Jones, who left us on September 9th, 2024, was a towering figure in film, television, and theater. His deep, iconic voice brought unforgettable characters to life and inspired generations. From the wisdom of Mufasa 🦁 to the commanding presence of Darth Vader 🌌, his legacy will echo forever.

Frankie Beverly, who followed on September 10th, 2024, was the soulful voice behind Maze’s timeless hits 🎤. His music defined an era, filling our hearts with joy, love, and unforgettable grooves. "Before I Let Go," "Happy Feelings," and many more anthems were the soundtracks of our lives, bringing us together through every note and melody. 🎶

These two legends touched our lives in ways words can't fully capture. Their artistry, passion, and spirit will forever be remembered. Rest in power, Kings. ✊🏽👑

BREAKING NEWS: Legendary singer Frankie Beverly has passed away at the age of 77. We will pay tribute to him tonight on on the at 6 pm EST.

January 5, 1975 – The Wiz: The Super Soul Musical "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" the longest running Black musical (1,672 shows) opened on Broadway on this date in 1975.
The 1975 Broadway production won 7 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The musical was an early example of Broadway's mainstream acceptance of works with an all-black cast.
The musical has had revivals in New York, London, San Diego and the Netherlands, and a limited-run revival was presented by Encores! at New York City Center in June 2009.
A film adaptation was released in 1978. The musical opened with Geoffrey Holder as director and the following cast: Stephanie Mills as Dorothy, Hinton Battle as the Scarecrow, Tiger Haynes as the Tin Man, Ted Ross as the Lion, Dee Dee Bridgewater as Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, André DeShields as the Wizard, Mabel King as Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West, Clarice Taylor as Addaperle, the Good Witch of the North, Tasha Thomas as Aunt Em, Ralph Wilcox as Uncle Henry, and Phylicia Rashād as a Munchkin.
