Today, as we mark Trans Day of Remembrance & Resilience, we honor the lives lost to anti-transgender violence and honor those who continue to fight for transgender dignity and equality every day.
As we take the time to recognize the resilience and strength of the transgender community in the face of adversity, we must continue to work toward creating a world in which everyone can live their lives without fear of discrimination or violence – including on college and university campuses.

SB17 in Texas has led to so many challenges for students at colleges and universities, which prohibits campus programs that specifically serve diverse student populations. At University of Houston, that's led to the closure of the campus LGBTQ+ Resource Center. It's been inspiring, then, to see how students have really stepped up to organize, envisioning, creating and funding new resources for LGBTQ+ students on campus. Today we celebrate Inters*x Awareness Day, during which we celebrate the diversity of inters*x people. There are over 40 different variations that fall under the inters*x umbrella—people with s*x traits that fall outside of traditional notions of male and female bodies.

New laws in Florida and Texas are forcing on-campus LGBTQ+ centers to shutter across both states – and in most cases, university officials have been slow to clarify where q***r students can access the support and resources they need to thrive.

Every year, we release our Worst List of campuses for LGBTQ+ students because we believe that religious schools that actively harm and discriminate against q***r students should be held accountable.
The 2023 Worst List highlights the most dangerous campuses for q***r students – each with a documented history of discrimination, including so-called conversion therapy, punishment/expulsion of LGBTQ+ students, and discriminatory policies written into the student handbook.

This week we were at UNC Charlotte for "OctoberTest: It's Good to Know," a student-led HIV/STI awareness campaign. The event included free, confidential HIV/STI testing, a wellness fair featuring local community-based and student organizations, a student activity room with swag and games, and a stigma pledge. Our team at Campus Pride tabled at the event – and Buff Faye hosted a panel on drag artistry. So great to see everyone at this special event.

Campus Pride represents the leading national nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization for student leaders and campus groups working to create a safer college environment for LGBTQ students. The organization is a volunteer-driven network “for” and “by” student leaders. The primary objective of Campus Pride is to develop necessary resources, programs and services to support LGBTQ and ally students on college campuses across the United States.
Founded in the Fall of 2001 and launched a year later in October of 2002, Campus Pride started as an online community and resource clearinghouse under the name Campus PrideNet. The original founding partners were M. Chad Wilson, Sarah E. Holmes & Shane L. Windmeyer. In 2006, the organization broadened its outreach efforts and restructured as the current educational non-profit organization Campus Pride. As part of the restructuring process, the Lambda 10 Project for LGBT Fraternity & Sorority Issues became an educational initiative of Campus Pride. The executive director is national LGBTQ civil rights leader and campus pioneer Shane L. Windmeyer.
