Post-market reality….back to my day job.

The Spring Needlepoint Market is a wrap! So much energy goes into these events, both from the organizers and the designers. The shops from all over the country shop til they drop, all to bring the designs of these talented artists back to your local needlepoint stores. I had little time to visit with some of my fellow designers - I’ll do better next time!

It was a successful few days, but I’m exhausted! Slowly unpacking, putting together orders and restocking what I sold out of. If you have a pre-order pending, I’ll be in touch soon!

I have a thing for owls, and Flaco’s story had me riveted from the day he escaped. I’m not a New Yorker, but my daughter is, and I adore that city. His death broke my heart, and could have been avoided. According to research, between 90,000 and 230,000 birds die every year in NYC alone due to collisions with building glass. There’s a bill in front of the NY legislature now, called Flaco’s Bill, that hopes to mandate changes that will alleviate this.

So to honor Flaco’s memory, and to mark the impact he had on the NYC community, I painted this design as a fundraising effort. All net profit from the sale of this design will support efforts on Project Safe Flight, a program designed to assist in making NYC a safer place for migrating birds thru research and education.

Still working on my finishing technique, which is highly imperfect - but I’m getting better each time! Now my poor arthritic hands need some recovery time.

Starting a new project…..this is one of my designs, but years ago while doing a custom color-swap, I spilled coffee all over it!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️ So, I kept it unfinished to stitch for myself. Any idea which design it is?

Nearly done with the binding stitch on this bag strap, then it’s off to the finisher! It was a quick and easy stitch, with a little personalization thrown in. Recommend!

Perfect evening… outside fire, happy dogs, stitching project and the NCAA finals…and I picked the Huskies to win!

I work a lot of night shifts at the hospital, and just came off a long stretch. I walk by this painting all the time, and I don’t know if it’s the middle of the night fatigue or what, but it creeps me OUT! Does anyone else see the murderous person lurking under the water? Reason 1002 I don’t swim in dark water. I’ve been known to take a long detour not to walk by this painting. Call me crazy - that is all.

4:48am, night shift at the hospital. I had a quiet 20 minutes with a cup of coffee and started this baby. And yes…I cannot lie, I’m STOKED!

Well, hey there! I figured I should introduce myself since all I ever post is pics of needlepoint! There’s a face and a story behind all of that canvas … so nice to meet you! I’m Caroline Brand of Cabell Stitchery (pronounced caaabul, not caBELL). Cabell was my father and the name is rich in Virginia history. I’ve been stitching since I was allowed to hold a needle. I accidentally started this adventure when I couldn’t find a canvas I wanted, and the rest is history. I started the business during COVID as I needed another way to use my brain that wasn’t related to patients. When I’m not designing and painting, I work full time as a Nurse Practitioner in Charlottesville, Virginia, and am clinical faculty at UVa in the Graduate School of Nursing. I have 3 kids - one about to finish college and twin boys in high school. I have 2 crazy dogs and, as you can tell, a pretty crazy life. I like to listen to loud music, am addicted to serial killer shows and The West Wing, and if you’re around me long enough it’s likely something inappropriate will come out of my mouth.

I’m constantly looking for new ideas to put onto canvas for you. I try to paint things that are funny, colorful, timeless and will appeal to a whole new generation of stitchers.

Easter is coming! And I’m so behind! Market got me off of my painting routine so I’m just now rolling out these Easter ornaments! One is the newest in my Stackable Collection, and the bunny is the cousin to my Holiday Deer. Both are available for pre-order! Both are on 18 mesh. I’m painting them as fast as I can!!

Spring has sprung in Virginia! 6 hours in the yard - dead winter stuff is gone, new roses planted, compost pile rejuvenated, bird bath cleaned and ready for the bird crew. I planted a brand new all-native pollinator garden last fall and it’s coming in nicely( the garden below the wall, behind the statue). I’m ready! (And so are the bees 🐝 ❤️)
