Established on September 18, 1947, today we proudly celebrate the Air Force’s Birthday. With the passage of the National Security Act of 1947, the United States Air Force was officially recognized as a separate branch of military service. On this special day, we honor the brave airmen, airwomen, and their families who serve our nation with dedication and excellence. Happy Birthday, U.S. Air Force!

A big THANK YOU to our MSS/Volunteer Coordinator at Legacy Fredericksburg for assisting a family who lost a loved one in July 2024 by providing this special bereavement service. We worked with a seamstress volunteer to create memory bears and quilts from the patient's clothing, chosen by the family. We love being able to leave lasting impression on those we serve. Legacy Hospice continues to touch lives in our community, one family at a time.

Labor Day is a time to pay tribute to all our American workers. We thank our workers for the contributions and achievement each one of you have made over the years.

Hard work is more than just a job. Harvey Mackay says it best if you “find something you love to do, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.”

We hope you have found a career that you look forward to working in each day. Happy Labor Day!

30/08/2024

As many of us begin to enjoy a long weekend to celebrate Labor Day, we want to remind you that we have on-call staff available around the clock. We are here for our patients 24/7!

Today, on National Grief Awareness Day, we pause to acknowledge the profound pain that comes with loss and to honor the journey of healing that follows. Grief is a deeply personal experience, one that often leaves us feeling isolated and overwhelmed. But it is important to remember that no one has to walk this path alone.

At Legacy Hospice, we are committed to supporting those who are grieving. Whether you're mourning the loss of a loved one, or helping someone through their grief, we want you to know that your feelings are valid and that healing is possible.

We offer compassionate care and resources to help you navigate this difficult time. From counseling services to support groups, we are here to provide a safe space where you can express your emotions and find comfort in the company of others who understand what you're going through.

Grief doesn’t have a timeline, and there is no “right” way to grieve. It’s a process that unfolds in its own time and taking it one day at a time is okay. On this National Grief Awareness Day, let's come together to support one another, listen with empathy, and remind each other that even in the darkest moments, hope and healing are within reach.

If you or someone you know is struggling with grief, please reach out. We’re here for you, today and every day. https://legacy-hospice.com/

Angels are commonly viewed as our beloved ones who have passed on to heaven and are now keeping watch over us. An angel can also be recognized as someone for whom we express gratitude to God for their guidance, assistance, compassion, or support during challenging times (and the better times) — let's cherish those individuals who have acted as angels in our lives.

We are thrilled to announce that Denice, our Community Liaison in Fredericksburg, has recently attained certification as a Death Doula! This new level of support will be a valuable addition for our hospice patients and their families as they navigate end-of-life situations. Wondering what exactly a Death Doula does? These trained professionals provide assistance to individuals who are approaching the end of life, as well as their loved ones. They offer support before, during, and after death, aiding with advance care planning, life legacy projects, and more. By working closely with the dying individual to reflect on their life's meaning, bid farewells, express regrets, and prepare for the inevitable moment of passing away, Death Doulas ensure that comfort is prioritized and personal wishes are respected. Beyond this transitional period, our doulas continue to offer assistance as family members begin the process of grieving.

On World Lung Cancer Day, we spotlight the impact of the deadliest cancer, responsible for nearly one in five cancer deaths globally. With 1.8 million deaths and 2.21 million new cases each year, the fight against lung cancer is crucial. Although smoking continues to be the primary culprit, air pollution and exposure to carcinogens also play significant roles.

There is reason for optimism with advancements in early detection methods and treatment options. By ensuring that individuals at high risk undergo regular screenings, we have the potential to save nearly 25,000 lives every year.

We invite you to join us in spreading awareness, providing support to patients, and advocating for research efforts aimed at eradicating lung cancer. Together, our collective efforts can truly make a difference.
