Madayin: Eight Decades of Aboriginal Australian Bark Painting from Yirrkalal

Monday's can be tough... so take a minute to enjoy a sneak peak of one of the masterpieces traveling from Australia for "MAḎAYIN: Eight Decades of Aboriginal Australian Art from Yirrkala." This work is by the great Yaŋgarriny Wunuŋmurra and was commissioned by Dr. Stuart Scougall for the Art Gallery of New South Wales . Depicting the creative actions of the ancestral beings Barama and Lany'tjuŋ it is, without doubt, one of the most epic paintings ever made in Australia. MAḎAYIN will be the first time that this masterpiece has been shown outside of Australia. MAḎAYIN opens at the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth on September 3, 2022. Organized by Kluge-Ruhe in collaboration with Buku-Larrnggay Mulka, it promises to be one of the most important exhibitions of Australian art ever staged in the United States.
