All orders already accepted will still be fulfilled, but I will not take any new orders until closer to fall. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping me achieve a life long dream, and who knows what the future may hold!

Slowly reintroducing my Gluten friendly products.. as my diet has changed, and I try to avoid gluten, I have a mild sensitivity to it. I’ve found that I’ve missed out on treats and such. Here’s my gluten friendly chocolate chip cookies! I say gluten friendly because I still produce products with gluten, so there is a chance of cross contamination. This are soft in the center and just enough crisp in the edges.. sooo good!
Here’s the next one, using more traditional gluten free flours.. very similar in texture, not as sweet… while still good flavor, I actually think I like the almond flour one better.. however.. this one does not have raisins and currants in it.
I’m testing two versions of Gluten-Free Irish Soda Bread today. This first one is a recipe shared by a friend . This one is made using almond flour, eggs, and no dairy. The sweetener in it is honey. I was skeptical at first with using just almond flour, but it came out great! Has a great texture and just the hint of sweetness from the honey, it browned up very nice. You will see this on Saturday at from 2-6.
Bread and cookies and scones, oh my! Pick up some great treats on Saturday at from 2-6. See you there!
Guess where you can find me this Saturday?!
❤

Eat Dessert First
The idea for my business started over 25 years ago. I was a single mom of 4 children, working part time and going to college full time. I needed an extra source of income that didn’t take me out of my home so I could still be there for my children. One set of parents owned and operated a farmstand and greenhouse business, so I asked them if I would be able to sell some baked goods through the farmstand. They agreed and I began my journey. I began baking fruit pies and quick breads to sell. I continued baking for them for two seasons, while I was still in college. When I graduated I was given the opportunity to take a position with a large hotel chain. I took that opportunity and moved my young family from Rochester, NY to Minneapolis, MN. For the next 20 years I lived my life, raised my children, divorced, and remarried, and my dream of a business had been put on a back burner.
When the state of Minnesota passed the Cottage Food Law in 2015, the embers of my old business dream began to glow a little brighter. I applied for my Cottage food Registration and applied to the Downtown Chaska Farmers Market and was accepted. That first season of selling my baked goods was a success! I was fully vested back into my dream of opening my own business. The decision of what to name my business wasn’t too difficult. I doodled out many different variations of my name within the business name, but none of them sounded just right. As I was looking through a book, getting ideas for new desserts, I came across a quote; “...Life is short, eat dessert first”. I said, “that’s it!” The name of my business will be Desserts First Bakery. And the rest, as they say, is history. In the past 4 years I have continued to sell at the Chaska Farmers Market. I expanded out into Hopkins, Excelsior and Maple Grove. This year I will be adding Linden Hills Market to my line up as well.
This year, 2019, I have decided to pull back just a little bit. I’m refocusing on what the core of business always has been. My desserts have always been and always will be handmade. Using fresh, seasonal and local ingredients to create the best product that I can. My main focus will be pies, cookies, quick breads and scones. I will always have my other desserts available for order, but my markets will focus on the best of my line-up. Follow along on my journey with me and stay tuned for some (potentially) exciting news.
