So you know about open enrollment and you've probably had a "qualifying event" occur that allowed you to adjust your insurance in the middle of your plan year, but do you know what qualifies as a "qualifying event"?
"Little known fact, all Section 125 mid-year events are optional for employers to elect, but most employers choose to offer all mid-year events. This is why reviewing the plan document is the first and MOST important step in determining if an employee may change their elections. If an event is not adopted in the written plan document, the document must be amended to allow an employee to prospectively change coverage.
The chart below outlines the optional mid-year events. The plan documents govern and should provide additional guidance for which benefits the events may apply. NOTE: Many of these events do not apply to Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (DCFSAs): " (Pinnacle Financial Partners)

"The Plan Sponsor Council of America (PSCA) recently released their 2023 Health Savings Account Benchmarking Survey, which surveyed 529 employers that have an HSA program. This report not only breaks down contribution strategies employers use to fund employee accounts, but also how employers of certain sizes strategize timing."
