Mountain Bela Co Tag Necklace - Believe in yourself and stay focused on your goals! The greatest view often follows the hardest climb!

As I was walking out the door on my way to physical therapy today, this necklace caught my eye, hanging on my necklace stand untouched for quite some time. My neck bare, which is unusual, I slipped it off the stand and clasped it around my neck.

I haven't been posting much, this journey that started back at the beginning of December - having surgery on my foot and the healing time... It has taken much longer than I expected. If you've been following along, maybe you've caught snips here and there. I had to have three ligaments and one tendon repaired instead of just one ligament as planned. My PT calls it the "mother of all repairs". The outlook is good but it's one year to full recovery and it will be April before I'm walking like a real person. Not gonna lie, some discouragement and depression have been trying to sneak their little fingers around my heart, soul and mental space.

So, seeing this necklace today made me a little emotional. It is one of the main stays of the jewelry line, I launched it in 2016. It was the first design in the tag collection.

It's funny how things come around. When I wrote the meanings that go with the tag necklaces, they were definitely meant to be worn in a way that reminds people of something, encourages them, or comes to them as a meaningful gift. I know lots of you have worn your necklace for years and years. 💓

I will be living in this one as a reminder that even tho this snapshot in time has been HARDDDD, it's going to be worth it. The original name of this necklace was "Climb Mountain Tops" and mannn-oh-man. I can't wait to do just that! 🌄

✨My WEBSITE is OPEN again!!✨
I finally start PT this week!!!

My very long 6 weeks of not being able to touch my foot to the ground is coming to an end. It will be a slow roll (see what I did there 🙃) to be able to walk and drive but at least the next phase is about to begin 🙌🏼 PT 3x a week for 6 weeks and hopefully I can start to drive a little bit in a week or two 🙏🏼 currently my foot doesn't flex but I'm excited to see how quickly it will progress with therapy 🤞🏻🫣😍

The website is open again, many things are sold out, but what is available is ready to ship! 💓 I can hobble down stairs to my studio now so I can start easing back into work 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 I have missed it.

As for a new collection, to be honest... TBD. But it will come, the ideas are there and when the time is right I will hop back up at that bench and make some magic. Until then, the inspiration mounts.... ✨✨✨

When a weird year just keeps getting weirder….

In case you’ve wondered why my website is currently closed for orders and maybe you are thinking, “seriously what is going on at Bela Co?! Is the gig up? Is she done? And is it over now?”

The answer is no!! No, no. It’s just on pause 🩼

I’ve been putting a ligament reattachment surgery off for a longgg time. My ankle had absolutely no stability and if it popped out- I’d go down, hard. It could be the slightest variance in sidewalk heights and bam. Busted (I have a broken nose to show for it!) I fell again in Oct and this time the ankle didn’t pop back into place so well. Not only did the demands of Bela Co Brick & Mortar alongside the online store take time and space from my family… it made it hard for me to take care of myself, as well.

So I had the big scary surgery, on my driving foot, with two little kids, 2-4 weeks no weight bearing, two full weeks of an elevated foot 23 hrs a day, my precious being of a Mom staying with us for two weeks, huge sacrifices from my husband, parents, kids and myself… it’s a big recovery.

I got to the point where I was scared to carry a laundry basket down the stairs for fear of my ankle failing and something far worse happening to me. So, the bullet hath been bitten. I’m 10 days post op and things are.. going! It’s hard. But the scariest part is behind us. The pros outweighed the cons. It had to be done.

Anyway. I can’t get to my downstairs studio and even if I could, I can’t sit at the bench.

BUT! The forced break to rest and let my mind run free is breathing CREATIVITY!!!!! Ahhhhh 💓💓💓 I haven’t been so inspired to get back to the bench in a long time. “Nestled all snug in my bed, while visions of sugar-plums dance in my head” (sugar plums being tasty new designs of course). The website WILL reopen. And new jewelry will come. And I Can’t Wait!!

To say I am fortunate or lucky doesn’t touch it. A mystical power brought these ladies into my life; each an artist, full of passion, kind, supportive, hard working, dependable, dedicated, such pride & quality in their work, and an absolute joy to work beside. We’ve have our own little world, an art guild, happening inside these Bela Co walls. It’s 💯 one of the hardest parts of saying goodbye to the shop. These 4 badass women have been completely vital to the success of the company.

Marian, production extraordinaire. My rock. A superhuman in the studio cranking out top quality pieces of jewelry for Bela Co. Her own jewelry line is a top seller at the store, . In addition to jewelry, she crafts unique mixed media wall art (currently featured at the shop!) She’s also a potter, a painter, a mom of 2, and a very dear friend.

Emalaya, the shining face and warm energy that brings a sense of peace and calm to the store. In her time at Bela Co she delved into the world of jewelry design. Her line, , is also a top selling brand at the shop. In her time here, she was diagnosed with cancer, navigated treatment & has come out on the other side in remission. 🫶🏻🙌🏼 Having her back at the shop feels so special, she is one of those people that touches the soul of everyone she meets. A literal ray of sunshine. I love her oh-so dearly.

Chelsea, pure s***k and energy. Chelsea was the first hire and helped open the doors. She’s one of the hardest working women I know. She flew from her Bela Co nest earlier in the year to take her own business to the next level & I am so proud of her! She owns , call her for all of your alterations and closet revamp needs, stitch-witch queen! She weaves wall hangings & they are featured at the shop! She’s a loyal friend, there for me thru it all.

Phoebe, 🤍. She came to Bela Co at a strange time. I needed help while Emalaya was away, I had no idea what the future of the store would look like, I was in a state of chaos and she’s been HERE for it. She’s showed up in every way you can imagine. A jeweler herself creates beautiful, moody, unique jewelry. Her jewelry line is available at the shop! She is such a magical person, insanely suited for the job. If it wasn’t too good to be true, I’d think it was. She helps with jewelry production, is the welcoming face you’ve seen at the store as of late and has been a rock of emotional support for me thru these strange times. Thoughtful and insightful, it’s a wonder how incredibly this woman filled the gap with the perfectly unique skill set that Bela Co has needed at the end of this long strange, wonderful trip. A quick friend to whom I am so grateful.

When I opened my shop a little over 2 years ago, I didn’t choose Frazier Ave or the Southside. I wanted to be part of the MOVEMENT and positive growth in Red Bank! My house, my kid’s preschool and my shop are all in a 1 mile walking radius. It made the most perfect sense to me!

When I moved to Red Bank 7 years ago, it was a shocking contrast to East Nashville where I was able to hop into a coffee shop, brewery and record store all in one stroll down the lane. We’re not quite there but I have seen such an incredible change for the better in Red Bank- in so many ways- and I have fallen in love with living here! We have a community of passionate leaders- - and we have a community of passionate artists- Many of who’s work I have been honored to share with the world 🤍 has been a staple at the store from the beginning! She’s an incredible self taught potter and a truly lovely and interesting human being 🤍

I’m honored that she gave Bela Co the exclusive on these Ditch Dweller mugs (IYKYK!!) We have a short run of them, so if you didn’t preorder a mug from her then this is your one chance to add it to you cupboard.

Well friends, after the 1000s of sad, confused and happy tears, I share with you that on September 30th, the Bela Co Storefront in Chattanooga, TN will close its doors.

Over the past two years, I've poured my heart and soul into this special space, but it is now time for a new chapter.

I’m asked all the time, “how do you balance running a business, making jewels, have time for any resemblance of a social life and care for your family?!” Short answer, not well. 😆 Not the way I want, anyway.

This summer, I took a three-month sabbatical to figure out “what the hell am I going to do?!” Since this past holiday season, I've had melt-down after melt-down trying to figure out how I can possibly do it ALL in a way that feels good. Most of ya’ll probably know that I have two littles and a husband at home. Last year, I missed irreplaceable moments with my family, and I can't make that sacrifice again. My brain has tried on countless versions to make this work, but none of them felt right expect for my gut screaming at me, “Remove This Weight From Yourself Bethany!!!!” So, with a mix of sadness, happiness, and relief, I make this really, really difficult choice.

The growth and success of the shop has come at a significant cost. I LOVE my store and I give it a ton of my time and focus. I openly admit that my mental health has suffered, I am operating at full-blown-loony-toon level over here you guys. 🤪 Just because you love something dearly doesn’t mean that it is loving you back.

My home, apart from my family, has been neglected for years. I don’t have time to invest in friendships or deep connections with people. There's no mental space or time left for creativity to flow, and I've found myself feeling chaotic in every aspect of my life. My husband has been my rock throughout this journey, but the strain on our family is undeniable. This lady is not pouring from an empty cup, she is trying to put pieces of a broken one back together!

After months of decision paralysis, I've finally found peace with this choice. I'm confident it's the right one for my family and for me. Thank you for your unwavering support and encouragement throughout this wild ride.

Bitter and Sweet, both of these things can be true.

With a mix of emotions and countless tears shed, I'm announcing that on September 30th, Bela Co HQ will close its doors.

Over the past two years, I've poured my heart and soul into this special space, you guys- my beloved clientele, and my dedicated team.

Now it is time for a new chapter.

Many have asked me how I balance running a business, crafting jewelry, and caring for my family. The simple truth is that I haven't been managing it the way I want to. This summer, I took a three-month sabbatical to consider my future path. Since last holiday season, I've wrestled with the decision to keep the storefront open or closed. As some of you know, I have two young children, ages 5 and 3, and a wonderful husband at home. Last year, I missed irreplaceable moments with my family, and I can't make that sacrifice again. So, with a mix of sadness, happiness, and relief, I'm making this difficult choice.

Bela Co has transformed many times over the past eight years. From teaching myself to make jewelry and kicking off my budding business in Nashville, to moving and establishing a presence in Chattanooga. Bela Co has survived a pandemic, becoming a mommy (twice!), a million weekend shows and festivals, opening a storefront, and building a team to support it. Accomplishing my goal of successfully running this sweet little shop in Red Bank has been an exhilarating journey filled with highs and lows.

This growth and success has come at a significant cost, one I can no longer bear. I'll openly admit that my mental health has suffered. My home, apart from my family, has been neglected for years. There's no mental space or time left for creativity, and I've found myself feeling chaotic in every aspect of my life. My incredibly supportive husband has been my rock throughout this journey, but the strain on our family is undeniable.

Stepping away from the store, though heart-wrenching, is necessary. But don't worry! Bela Co will live on, taking on a new form—a fresh iteration.

Leaving the physical retail space will allow me to rediscover my creativity and refine my craft. In October, I'll attend my first formal jewelry training course, a step I've long wanted to take. It's a bittersweet farewell to the storefront, but it's also a joyful embrace of my family and artistry. Bela Co isn't vanishing; it's evolving, and I can't wait to share new, purposeful designs with you.

After months of decision paralysis, I've finally found peace with this choice. I'm confident it's the right one for my family and for me. Thank you for your unwavering support and encouragement throughout this wild ride.

STORE UPDATE! Thank you for your patience as I work thru the shifts of entrepreneurship and business models.

I had intended to take a sabbatical late June thru early July, but the overwhelming response from the birthday sale delayed things quite a bit. (And wow! Thanks again for that!)

40 years young today! 🫨

An amazing husband, 2 beautiful children, a third child I call Bela Co, my family and friends, my health (aside from the few creaky spots, I am 40 after all), and a heart and mind that feels as goofy and adventurous as it did when when I was 30 ✨

Today I am grateful for a fulfilling and beautiful life. For all of the mistakes I have tripped over, I am fortunate to have landed right here.

I’ve worked hard and I’m proud of myself… that surely hasn’t always been the case. This new decade feels like a time to evaluate and clear my slate, to move forward with confidence in myself and leave doubt behind. 🌬️

Second half of life (should I be so lucky)… I am excited for you 💗
